Helen Lindahl Michelson ’29, Colorado Springs, Dec. 6. Helen was a retired school librarian.
Ruth Osborn Chappell ’30, Vernon, Vt., Sept. 28. Ruth taught at Crested Butte High School and later worked as a lab technician for Mesa Verde National Park. Her husband Clifford Chappell ’28 preceded her in death.

Edward H. Parker ’30, Aurora, Colo., Feb. 23, 2003. Edward was a retired telephone engineer. Survivors include his wife Marion, his sons, Edward Jr. ’63 and John ’66, and his daughter-in-law, Cathey Grant Weir ’65.

Mary Bloom Vickerman ’32, Colorado Springs, Sept. 15. Mary was employed at Colorado College for many years between 1933 and 1969, including three years as night librarian at Coburn Library, five years as secretary for the athletic department, and 22 years as manager of the bookstore. Mary was an active member of the Fifty Year Club, serving as its correspondence secretary 1984-86. She was a development volunteer and a member of Friends of the Library and the Woman’s Educational Society. Survivors include her son, Jay ’63. She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel ’33.

James H. Turner ’33, Colorado Springs, Aug. 17. James was a retired research chemist for the U.S. Geological Survey.

Cora Sisam Grannis ’34, Washington, D.C., June 10. Cora retired in 1978 from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Malvina Trimble Robison ’35, Colorado Springs, Dec. 12. Malvina was a teacher and librarian. She was a member of the Woman’s Educational Society and the Friends of the Library at CC.

Albert P. Daniels ’36, Colorado Springs, Nov. 3. Al was the former owner of Daniels Chevrolet in Colorado Springs. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Evans Daniels ’36.

Jean Crawford Jauchen ’37, Colorado Springs, Nov. 22. Jean was a retired teacher.
James H. McIntyre ’37, Edmond, Okla., Oct. 1. Jim was an independent insurance agent. Survivors include his wife Leola. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah McIntyre Pryor ’36.

Theodore M. Billings ’40, Aurora, Colo., Nov. 14.

Mary Duggan Clark ’40, Baton Rouge, La., Oct. 2. Mary retired in 1985 from Ball Aerospace in Boulder, Colo. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Duggan Jarboe ’41.

Gordon E. Harmston ’40, Salt Lake City, Nov. 3. Gordon and his wife Clara Abell Harmston ’43 established the Frontier Grill in Roosevelt, Utah, in 1946, which is still operated by his son. He was a member of the Utah State Senate 1963-1967, and served as the director of the Utah State Department of Natural Resources 1968-1981. Survivors include his wife and their six children.

Frank A. Colton ’41, Colorado Springs, June 5. Frank was an investor. One of the college’s most generous benefactors of his era, Frank and his widow Vergie gave their residence to the college to provide funds for a neuroscience design laboratory in the recently completed Tutt Science Center. In addition to Vergie, survivors include two sons, John and Robert, and a daughter, Roberta.

Elizabeth Longchamp McCann ’42, Austin, Texas, Aug. 2. Survivors include her sister, Sterling Longchamp Huyett ’40. Her husband Thomas McCann ’44 preceded her in death.

Brenton P. Bergh ’43, South Pasadena, Calif., March 17, 2003. Brent owned his own construction business. Survivors include his wife Louanne.

Donald I. Brothers ’43, Lake Forest, Ill., June 19. Don was a partner of A.S. Hansen Consulting Actuaries until his retirement in 1991. Survivors include his wife Nancy, his sister Phyllis Brothers Long ’46, his brother Dwight ’51, his late brother-in-law Edward Long ’44, his niece Elizabeth Long Gifford ’75, and his nephew David Long ’75.

Henry W. Elkins ’43, Colorado Springs, Nov. 22. Henry was the C.E.O. of El Paso Electric Co. until his retirement in 2001.

Thomas P. McCann ’44, Austin, Texas, July 16. Thomas was a retired geologist with Shell Oil. He was a former class agent as well as a volunteer with the career and development committees at the college. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Sterling Longchamp Huyett ’40. His wife Elizabeth Longchamp McCann ’42 passed away shortly after he did.

Harry F. Howard ’45, San Anselmo, Calif., Feb. 17. Survivors include his wife Marie, his brother, F. Clinton Howard ’48, and his sister-in-law, Beverly Geiger Howard ’48.

Miriam Johnson ’46, Colorado Springs, Oct. 10. Miriam was a retired film editor with Alexander Film Services.

Edward B. Horton ’47, Littleton, Colo., April 11, 2003. Edward was a retired real estate appraiser. He had a life membership in the Denver Orchid Society and had one of the largest orchid collections in the country. Survivors include his wife Gail Sedgwick Horton ’44.

Barbara Reed Sleight ’48, Honolulu, March 17, 2002. Barbara retired in 1993 as the director of St. Clement’s School in Honolulu. She was a member of the Woman’s Educational Society and the Friends of the Library. Survivors include her sons, Reed Minuth ’71 and Eric Minuth ’75, and her nephews, James Reed ’79 and Timothy Reed ’84.

Rita Hoag Goodnight ’49, Denver, Sept. 8. Rita was a member of the Woman’s Educational Society and the Friends of the Library. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Dorothea Farris Goodnight ’43, and her grandson, Christopher Goodnight ’90. She was preceded in death by her husband Warren Goodnight ’49 and her brother-in-law, Charles “Bill” Goodnight ’43.

Raymond B. Jones ’49, Pisgah Forest, N.C., June 12. Raymond was an account manager with the Container Corp. of America for 31 years. Survivors include his wife Margaret.

Dorothy Samson Ballinger ’50, Colorado Springs, Oct. 17. Dorothy was a former county clerk. Survivors include her husband William.

Harry A. Galligan ’50, Aurora, Colo., Nov. 17. Harry was the executive secretary of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. Survivors include his wife Gay Garnsey, his sister Joan Galligan Hoth ’45, and his brother-in-law Harry Hoth ’48.

Jack B. Keyte ’50, Colorado Springs, Oct. 11. He retired in 1987 as vice president of international operations with Dresser Industries in Bradford, Penn. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Cullyn. He was preceded in death by his brother, Max ’30.

Paul W. Kipp ’51, Colorado Springs, Sept. 13. A lifelong resident of Colorado Springs, Paul was owner/operator of Paul’s Flowers. Survivors include his wife Jean, his sisters, Rose Kipp McCormick ’49 and Elsie Kipp Beechwood ’61, his brother-in-law, James Beechwood ’59, and his daughter-in-law, Ashley Fitzgerald Kipp ’03.

Earl J. Bowers M.A.T. ’82, Colorado Springs, Dec. 1. Earl taught in the Cheyenne Mountain School District for 34 years. Survivors include his wife Ruby.

Belle Barton Rosing ’87, Timnath, Colo., Nov. 29, as the result of a car accident. Belle taught traditional Navajo weaving and was very active in the community. Belle is survived by her husband Gregory, their children, Ben and Katherine ’07, her mother Ruth Barton, professor emeritus of English at CC, and her brother, Tiff Barton ’92. She was preceded in death by her father T.K. Barton, former professor of history at CC.

Matt L. Johnston ’02, Des Moines, Iowa, Jan. 11. Survivors include his parents, Mark and Fran Johnston, and his sister, Katie.
