Funding
Colorado College’s vision for 2010 is no small
task; it requires a true visionary. So it came as
little surprise that lanky Colorado native Stephen
Elder was the man for the job. After four months
as interim vice president for advancement, Elder
was officially appointed to the position.
“Steve has raised the bar for this job,”
President Richard F. Celeste said. “He enjoys
enormous respect among his staff, and great confidence
among our trustees. Perhaps most important, he shares
my excitement about our ambitious effort to elevate
Colorado College to the national leader in undergraduate
liberal arts education. Steve will, in my judgment,
bring the energy, conviction, and skills to raise
the funds we need to be successful in this endeavor.”
As vice president for advancement, Elder will oversee
alumni relations; communications; leadership and
major gift initiatives; planned giving; the Annual
Fund; foundation, corporate, and agency relations;
and stewardship and donor-recognition programs.
Elder joined Colorado College in 1998, and was director
of development during Colorado College’s most
successful campaign, which concluded in 2001 and
raised $10 million over its $83 million goal.
“Working toward that vision here at CC, a
place I have come to love over the past five years,
and to be here in Colorado, my home state, is a
dream come true,” Elder said. “CC is
a distinctive institution, and we have a tremendous
opportunity to move ahead boldly and quickly with
an innovative approach to engagement and fundraising.”
