    Tour Choir

Most Certainly Nearly the Last Tour Choir Reunion

    June 20-23, 2019

This reunion will feature lots of singing with Don Jenkins, professor emeritus of music and former choir director, (but no concert). It is scheduled to allow us to attend some performances of the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, a highly professional annual campus event directed by Colorado College Associate Music Department Chair Susan Grace.

The Colorado College Summer Music Festival will be programming the Brahms Requiem for our final Festival Orchestra concert on June 22. Deborah Teske is preparing the Colorado Vocal Arts Ensemble for the chorus and Scott Yoo will be conducting the performance. The Brahms performance will be in honor of Don and the seventh Tour Choir Reunion gathering.

We are delighted to let you know that the Donald Phelps Jenkins Endowed Choral Fund — our fund! — is helping to support this performance. Since we won't be doing a concert (Don is especially happy about that), we'll have six sessions to look into six amazing and accessible longer works. Actually, we'll become acquainted with three or four key choruses from each, aiming to discover the wonder of the whole, and why the piece is so much worth our time. Those pieces are Handel's “Messiah,” Bach's “Mass in B minor,” Haydn's “The Creation,” Mendelssohn's “The First Walpurgis Night,” Orff's “Carmina Burana,” and Brahms' “Requiem.” For variety, we'll sing several shorter things as well, selected randomly from Tour pieces, spirituals, CC songs, and music theatre songs (we'll sing the melodies). The excellent pianist, Dan Brink, will accompany everything, making our singing easier.

There will be lots of time at the sessions for reminiscing and telling questionable jokes. We need very much to laugh a lot, to sing, and to just be together again. Note: We're not mailing music ahead of time; it will be available at the sessions.

The Tour Choir Reunion fee is $200. Registration closed on May 17, 2019. If you would like to attend and missed the deadline, please contact Lily Lauer at (719) 389-6777.
