Julie Thornton Fun Facts

Q: Where do you get your musical inspiration?

A: My musical inspiration comes from the sheer joy that I feel when I am rehearsing and performing. I love to feel the sound all around me in the Orchestra.

Q: What made you first realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?

A: I majored in music because my high school flute teacher encouraged me to. The first time I realized the power of orchestral music was our performance of Mahler’s First Symphony with the Seattle Youth Symphony when I was in High School. At the end of the performance, I was so moved that I had tears streaming down my face- I turned to the flutist next to me and she did too.

Q: What are some current projects you are working on?

A: Currently, I am performing my job with the Colorado Symphony and Teaching Flute at the University of Denver.

Q: What drew you to the Colorado College Summer Music Festival?

A: I have always been so impressed with the Quality of this festival. It is truly one of the best! It is a wonderful way to learn- in a supportive and challenging environment.

Q: What are you most excited for this upcoming festival season?

A: I am looking forward to working with the flutists.
