Proposal Requirements to Request New Riley Scholars

Updated October 19, 2020

The Dean of the Faculty invites proposals from programs and departments interested in hosting predoctoral or postdoctoral Riley Scholars-in-Residence during the 2021-2022 academic year. Predoctoral fellows are expected to teach two courses, and postdoctoral fellows are expected to teach three. Additionally, fellows are hired for one-year terms that may be extended for an additional year with approval from the Dean of Faculty.

If your program or department is interested in mentoring a Riley Scholar next year, please attend the information session on Thursday, November 19 from 3:30 to 4:30pm by clicking here. Chairs, Directors, and any other interested faculty in your program or department, should attend the session, and if possible, the program FAQs should be reviewed beforehand by clicking here. Similarly, please review the program description, leadership model, mission statement, and vision statement by clicking here.

All proposals should be 3-5 pages and include the following:

  • The evidence that your department or program is committed to effective mentoring and support.
  • If your department or program has previously hosted a Riley Scholar, detail the strategies and structures used to support the scholar, their effectiveness, and modifications you plan to implement based on that evaluation.
    • If your department or program has not hosted a Riley Scholar before, describe the structures and strategies your department has discussed and developed to support faculty with marginalized social identities.
  • A description of how you believe that the candidate will enrich and support the department or program curriculum.
  • Current and future staffing needs of the department/program.
  • The dossier of the candidate you would like to interview (not included in 3-5 page count). For the Interfolio login information, please contact the Director of the Riley Scholars-in-Residence Program.

Please submit proposals to Dale Willson, Assistant to the Dean of Faculty, at by February 22, 2021 at 5pm. Approval decisions will be announced the first week of March.
