Class speaker: Alison Kelman '09, "Building Patagonia National Park"
Alison served as the Communications Director for Conservation Patagonia, a California-based non-profit that works to create new national parks in Chile and Argentina. During her tenure, Conservacion Patagonica completed and donated Patagonia National Park, a 720-000-acre park in Aysen, Chile. The project was part of a larger donation by the umbrella organization, Tompkins Conservation, which donated 1 million acres of private land, the largest donation of land from a private entity to a country in history. This contribution is responsible for the creation of five new national parks and the expansion of three more. Hear about Alison’s journey from volunteer to Communications Director, and the historic donation set to change the landscape and economy of Chilean Patagonia.
