Overview

Pikes Peak

Newly admitted degree-seeking multilingual students may be asked to attend the Global Scholars Program, to be held July 17th through August 12th, 2017 at Colorado College, prior to International Student Orientation. The Global Scholars Program, or GSP, is designed to provide students with the opportunity to adjust to U.S. classroom culture in a higher education context, as well as gain a valuable introduction to the intense academic pace of the college's Block Plan.  Additionally, the GSP helps multilingual students strengthen their fluency with academic English through auxiliary practice with written and spoken skills, and the availability of additional ESL support.

Students will be asked to participate in the Global Scholars Program because their applications indicate they may benefit from this academic preparation program and additional language instruction and support. The GSP will not only prepare students to succeed at CC, but will also allow them to become familiar with campus resources and services, as well as explore the local Colorado Springs community.

Students enrolled in this program will take a standard block course for 1.0 unit of credit. The coursework in this Global Scholars Program will focus on an introduction to the study of the liberal arts and as well as on the linguistic skills necessary to do well on the Block Plan. As a participant in the GSP, you will have the chance to delve into important social, political and/or cultural issues that loom large in both the real world and in the college environment. As a student at a liberal arts college, you will be challenged to engage your intellect as a careful reader, active listener, critical thinker, and analytical writer. The Global Scholars Program helps you sharpen these tools while developing collaborative relationships with faculty, staff and other students.

Throughout the program, student mentors will share their experiences with you and teach you about CC as only other students can. These connections with your mentors and other students are so important, we require students to live in on-campus in a CC residential hall while attending the GSP.

In addition to your academic work, you will have time to take advantage of leisure activities. Afternoon and weekend activities and field trips have been planned to help you enjoy the Colorado College campus and the wonders of the state of Colorado.

A comprehensive fee of $6344 will be charged to your student account for participation in the Global Scholars Program. This fee encompasses payment for the 1.0 units of course credit, room & board, health insurance for the Summer 2017 term at CC, and extracurricular activities as well as transportation from the Colorado Springs Airport to the Colorado College campus.

Given the logistics and time necessary to apply for a visa, you are encouraged to make your decision to participate in the Global Scholars Program as soon as possible. Students may confirm their intent to attend the GSP through their CCBasecamp.com account no later than May 1st, 2017. If you decide to participate in the GSP, additional details about the program and your arrival on campus will be emailed to you.
