Spanish- SP 101: Elementary Spanish

Spanish 101 is a course for students who have never studied Spanish before or have completed a maximum of 2 years or less of Spanish in high school.
The course will complete a year of intense language immersion in the speaking, listening, reading and writing at a beginner’s level of Spanish. The class meets a minimum of 3 hours per day and assigns at least 4 to 6 hours of work on a computerized program that challenges the student to read, write and listen to a variety of beginning level scenarios.
The students are also challenged to participate in basic level classroom conversations while working in group dramas that are presented in class on a weekly basis.
The course concentrates on the linguistic acquisition of Spanish and also briefly examines the cultural influences of Spain and Latin America on the language.
A two-block course with one instructor; one grade will be given for the course as a whole.
- Both blocks, taken together, fulfill the two-block language requirement.
- Students will be expected to work 4 to 6 hours daily on workbook and lab assignments.
- No prior language experience necessary, less then 2 years of Spanish in high school.
- There will be a trip to Baca for a week.
