PS203: Political Economy from Ancient to Modern Times

This course examines the historically evolving understanding of the relation between politics and economics from ancient to modern times through reading and discussing major texts, both ancient and modern, in the western tradition. Issues to be addressed will include how the west grew rich, the changing understanding of the relation between liberty and equality, the proper role of government in the economy, how the growth of wealth affects our ideas of moral virtue and conduct.
