GS222: Creativity and Logic

The balance of new ideas in familiar forms gives music its rhythm and lyricism, architecture its structural integrity and beauty, literature its poignancy and approachability, and business its impact and financial sustainability. This course explores what it means to innovate under constraint, how humans respond to limitations with creativity, how framing complicated problems clearly can lead to successful solutions. We will build and draw upon a diverse set of tools and approaches to problem-solving, from the natural sciences, humanities and the social sciences. Students will exercise those skills in solving currently unresolved problems in our local community, putting their learning into action via teamwork, final presentations and written papers. This course will explicitly connect students with the Innovation@CC program, teaching them multidisciplinary techniques and introducing them to opportunities and resources available for them through this and other programs at Colorado College and within the larger Colorado Springs community.
