Research Interests

Until most recently, I focused on contemporary Russian writers. My dissertation was on Eduard Limonov's picaresque, It's me, Eddie, followed by my translation of his second book of the New York trilogy, Diary of a Loser. In the past few years, I have written on Vladimir Sorokin, and representatives of the new generation, Roman Senchin and Lara Vapnyar. My current project is on Anna Karenina: I am formulating a Marxist reading of the novel with the focus on the figure of the peasant, and on the modes of communication in Tolstoy's narrative.
