First Year Registration ( Revised )

*NEW FOR THE 2021-22 AY*

In collaboration with the First-Year Program (FYP) and Student Opportunities and Advising Hub (the Hub), the first-year student registration process begins with early summer advising. With guidance from their assigned faculty advisor and Hub advisor, first year students will utilize CC’s degree progress planning and tracking platform, Stellic, to plan their courses for their first academic year (blocks 1 – 4 in the Fall and 5 – 8 in the Spring). First-Year Registration is then the formal process for new first-year students to use the live, blockly registration application, Add/Drop, to register for blocks 1 – 4. During a one week window, Add/Drop is closed to returning students and made available to first year students only for their registration period. First-Year students will register for their first four blocks which include a CC First-Year Foundations Seminars pairing of CC100: Critical Inquiry Seminar in block one, and CC120: First-Year Writing Seminar in either blocks two, three, or four. Because First-Year Registration is live, students will know in real-time whether they’ve been officially enrolled into a course or placed on its waiting list based on the available seats. Students may choose to officially register for one course while staying on a waitlist for one course each block; a total of two courses per block. After the one week window has ended, Add/Drop will become available again to returning students to resume registration changes. First-Year students may continue to make registration changes to their non-CC100/120 courses after the one week window but their CC First-Year Foundations Seminars will be locked in and closed from changes.

  • Students must register for a CC First-Year Foundations Seminars pairing; a CC100: Critical Inquiry Seminar in block 1 and a CC120: First-Year Writing Seminar which will be linked in either block 2, 3, or 4.

  • Students must register for a full schedule in the Fall by adding a course in their remaining two blocks; blocks 1 thru 4 must be filled with courses to total 4 units.
  • Students' Spring selections will be saved in Stellic as a plan and may be submitted for processing during Spring Preregistration in the Fall (dates tbd).

  • Once First-Year Registration week closes, no changes may be made to the CC First-Year Foundations Seminars (students may continue to make changes to their non-CC100/120 courses up until the registration deadline for each block.

  • First-Year Registration is live and available seats in classes can fill up quickly! It is strongly recommended to have at least two back up course selections for each block in the event a course is full.
  • CC First-Year Foundations Seminars will be locked in at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 Monday, August 9, 2021. Changes will not be allowed to these locked in selections without explicit approval from the First-Year Program Director.

  • Make sure to fill each block with a block seminar course for blocks 1, 2, 3, and 4.

  • Adjuncts may be added at the time of First-Year Registration but it is recommended to focus on adding block seminar courses first.
  • Students who are signing up for courses that require consent (either COI or COD) are encouraged to obtain these ahead of First-Year Registration week. These are consent requirements placed on a course by a department. the COD PIN will be obtained from the Department's Chair; the COI PIN will be obtained from the instructor/professor of the course.
  • Students who are signing up for courses that require a prerequisite that they don't directly meet (such as transfer coursework, AP/IB test scores, or other means) and would still like to seek a seat in the course will need to reach out to the instructor/professor of the course to obtain their COI PIN which will act as their prerequisite override approval. Students are encouraged to obtain these ahead of First-Year Registration week.
  • Students who are taking time off: one or more block off, will need to contact their Hub advisor to process the official form. First-years and Sophomore students must be granted permission from the Student Opportunities and Advising Hub (the Hub) to take a block off. See Student Leave Policy.
