Summer 2014 - Pilot Schedule
September 13, 2013
Dear Campus Community,
Part of The Colorado College Plan: Building on the Block is to make more strategic use of our summer. To begin to implement new summer thematic programs and also provide some blocked time for repair, renovation, and planning, we will pilot the following schedule in summer 2014.
Two summer blocks for traditional undergraduate classes:
Block A – Monday, June 2 – Wednesday, June 25 (at noon)
Summer Block Break – June 25-29
Block B – Monday, June 30 – Thursday, July 24 (no class on July 4)
Nine weeks available for graduate coursework:
Monday, June 2 – Friday, August 1
Although we will not offer an undergraduate Block C, there will be a summer (I) credit available for international, internship, and independent study credit. Therefore, a student could receive three units in Blocks A, B, and in I over the summer, if needed.
All other summer on-campus residential programming (including thematic programs and conferences) will end by July 24. This will allow for two weeks of focused work time/planning time from Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 8. Collaborative projects and preparation for the coming academic year will be our focus during these two weeks. We will observe “summer hours” during these weeks with offices closing at 4:30 instead of 5 p.m.
This past summer we initiated a new Student-Faculty Collaborative Research Program that provided additional stipend support to student researchers working with faculty. Next summer, we will also provide on campus housing for students as part of their compensation; this 10-week opportunity will run between May 19 and July 25. Research collaboration extending beyond July 25 will not include on-campus housing.
International summer courses may be scheduled anytime between May 23 and August 15.
Please let me know if you have any questions. We will pilot this schedule in summer 2014 and use what we learn to best implement our strategic plan. The annual call for summer course proposals is coming soon. Thanks!
