College Response to Hateful Vandalism

Colorado College is firm in our commitment to and celebration of diversity and inclusion, and we are deeply saddened that CC students were targeted with hate. Following reports of hateful graffiti found in Slocum Hall over the weekend that specifically targeted members of CC's LGBTQ+ community living there, campus leadership and the campus community took immediate action to support our students and investigate this incident.

Campus Safety is conducting an investigation. If you have any information on this incident, please contact Campus Safety.

Residential Life staff members are providing support to students affected, and held an all-hall meeting for all Slocum residents and followed up directly with students living in the vandalized residence hall. Additionally, the Revitalizing Nations Living and Learning Community joined the PRIDE Living and Learning Community to watch movies, bake cookies, and support one another on Sunday evening.

The Butler Center and Residential Life and Campus Activities are working together to implement the following plan:

  • A poster campaign that affirms inclusive community and queer communities within our broader CC community
  • A Slocum Hall community dialogue during Block 4
  • Development of a response/activity led by joint student groups for wider campus awareness and engagement
  • Providing quiet, reflective gathering and private spaces
  • Campus Safety continues to provide Safe Ride and shuttle services to assist with students' safety in and around campus.

Please review the college's anti-discrimination policies and reporting protocol. If anyone in the CC community sees any other suspicious activity or feels unsafe, please contact Campus Safety any time of day or night at (719) 389-6707 or (719) 389-6911. The safety of the students, faculty, and staff is the college's top priority; we are all safer if we watch out for each other.
