Dear Campus Community,

Following extensive renovations to two campus buildings, earlier this month, I shared with the Board of Trustees our plan to name these facilities in honor of notable individuals from the CC community.

The building at 921 N. Nevada Ave. is apartments for visiting faculty, and will be named Bates House after the college's most famous faculty visitor, Katharine Lee Bates. She was a visiting faculty member in the CC Department of English when she penned her famous, "America, the Beautiful."

The house just south of Spencer Center at 818 N. Tejon St., the current home for ITS leadership, will be named Collins Hall in honor of Theodore Roosevelt "Rosie" Collins, CC's athletic trainer from 1935-1970. Collins was the athletic trainer for two CC NCAA Hockey National Championship teams, and the first person of color in a professional position at the college.

Signage for Bates House and Collins Hall will be installed later this year.

CC's naming policy for facilities and programs is a way to honor distinguished service to the college.
