Backcountry Track

This is the generic track, designed for hiking or backpacking trips, including any ORC or backcountry NSO trip.

To become certified at each level, you must complete and record all pre-requisites, courses, and experiences listed under that level. Record your courses and experiences on Summit, and then submit a request for level completion to receive your certification. See 'Who Can Lead What' for a description of what trips each level can lead. 


Level I Assistant Leader


Level I Backcountry

Minimum CPR/First-Aid Certification (WFA/WFR Highly Recommended)


Participate on two CC Outdoor Ed trips (includes NSO, ORC, and/or BreakOut) 

Level II Leader


Backcountry Level I Assistant Leader


Level II Backcountry (Spring Break, Block, or Independent)

Wilderness First Responder (WFR)


Lead one overnight backcountry trip

Level III Instructor


Backcountry Level II Leader


Level III Backcountry 


Lead/Instruct a total of 20 days with Outdoor Ed

Instruct a Level I Backcountry course

Mentor a Level II Backcountry course
