Improvements (Patch Notes)

Lots of technology improvements are happening at CC, and we'd like to get the word out to campus about them.  To start, we decided to publish frequent infographics to showcase the improvements in a quick and readable format, and we're calling that format "Patch Notes."

We changed Electronics Recycling days to make it easier for you to bring your unwanted ewaste in for us to recycle.  Instead of only one Tuesday per month, you can now bring your e-waste into the Help Desk any weekday and we'll make sure it's properly disposed of.  Now evey day is electronics recycling day!

Patch notes block 4 thumb

We moved student email to Office 365 in summer of 2013, but as of 12/1/13, Microsoft has made the full Microsoft Office suite available to students with an Office 365 subscription FREE (PC, Mac, and mobile versions).  We definitely wanted to announce that, and took the opportunity to highlight other benefits of Office 365 including vastly increased mailbox quotas (25 GB up from 1 GB), the fact that students can now keep their accounts indefinitely, access to Skydrive Pro - cloud storage very similar to dropbox but students get 25 GB of space, and Lync, which allows instant messaging, multi-user video chat, screen sharing, and more.

Internet Bandwidth Increased - thumbnail
We increased internet bandwidth by 300% (from 250 MB/s up to 1,000 MB/s) in Fall of 2012, though we didn't announce it at the time.  Brief statistics about internet usage are included, and it is noted that we know people still experience slowness.  The bottleneck is the wireless infrastructure, which is in need of updating.  The first planned upgrade is happening on November 21st 2013 as block 3 draws to a close.
