Cottage Housing

Cottages

Cottage Housing is an option only available to seniors who have met the college's three-year residential requirement (have lived on campus for at least 6 semesters). These college managed properties include studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom apartments and 4-person, 5-person, and 6-person houses.  Cottages are designed to combine some of the best aspects of living on-campus with the responsibilities that come with more independent living. Residents sign a lease for an unfurnished cottage, may have a pet (with a $300 nonrefundable pet deposit), and are not required to purchase a meal plan.  Amenities include a full-time Residential Life Coordinator and on-call maintenance staff. Utilities, trash removal, and Wi-Fi are included in the rental cost. Free street parking is available on Weber Street.

The 2020-2021 Cottage Selection Guide and 2020-2021 Cottage Application are now available. You can pick up a copy of the selection guide and/or application at the Housing Office in Bemis #139.

Cottage Selection Overview

The 2020-2021 Cottage Selection schedule is listed in the below steps.

Step One: Attend an Off Campus Workshop

These sessions are not mandatory but highly recommended for seniors applying for cottage housing.

Step Two: Complete the 2020-2021 Cottage Application

Cottage Applications will be available in the Housing Office, and will be available at all Information Sessions. The application can also be found on the Housing webpage. Applications must be submitted to the Housing Office by the date and time below.

Due Date: Friday, November 1 at 5 p.m. at the Housing Office, Bemis #139

Step Three: Conduct Verification

If 50% or more of the applicants in a group have significant conduct history (College housing restriction or greater sanctions) or have been involved in multiple incidents together, the group application will be ineligible.  If you are uncertain whether or not your group qualifies to apply for a cottage  together, we suggest that you email Luis Valdez at lvaldez@coloradocollege.edu prior to the application due date.  We will check the conduct history of your group and advise you of your eligibility so that you have time to reconfigure your group if the current configuration is not eligible to apply together.

Step Four: Lottery Numbers Issued

Students who apply for a cottage will be assigned a randomly generated lottery number. All members of each application will receive the application lottery number via email.

Date: Tuesday, November 5 after 1 p.m.

Step Five: Select a Cottage.

Selection will be an in-person process. If no representative is in attendance when a lottery number is called, the applicants will lose their opportunity to select a cottage.

Location: Hybl Community Center Main Space

Date: Friday, November 8 from 6-8 p.m.

FAQ

Am I eligible?

To be eligible to apply for a cottage, students must begin Block 1 of Fall 2020 having completed six semesters of on-campus living. Transfer students should contact Housing to determine their eligibility to apply for cottage housing.

Can I apply to more than one cottage configuration?

Yes. A student can apply for more than one cottage configuration, however, a student can only be listed on one application per cottage configuration. For example, a student can submit an application for two types of cottage configurations (i.e., a 1-person and a 5-person cottage group), but cannot be part of multiple applications for the same configuration (i.e., a student cannot be a part of two 5-person cottage applications). Each application receives a different lottery number.

If I apply for multiple configurations, can I put one offer on hold to see if I am able to get another offer?
(i.e., Can I hold an offer for a 2-person to see if I am offered a 4-person cottage?)

No. During the selection process, you will have to accept or decline an offer when your lottery number is called. Once you have accepted an offer, any other group application you are on becomes void because the application is invalid when a member drops out of the group application. The individuals on the group application would not be eligible for a cottage unless they are listed on another application that is still in the selection process.

Does the entire group have to be present for selection?

No. All members of your group do not need to be present for selection. However, those who are not present are giving their permission for the other member(s) of their group to act on their behalf. Therefore, any decisions that are made will be binding for the entire group (this includes bedroom selection).

I will be away from campus during the cottage selection process. Can I still apply?

Yes. You may still participate in the selection process by appointing a proxy to submit an application and act on your behalf during the selection process. Please email housing@coloradocollege.edu with the name of your proxy. Please choose your proxy carefully, as you will be entrusting this person with the responsibility of handling the application process and/or selection for you.

Are the cottages all-gender?

Yes. Students are allowed to name any roommate, regardless of gender identity.

What are the move in/move out dates?

Move in will be August 22, 2020 and move out will be May 17, 2021.

During the year, how will roommates be replaced if they leave?

If a student vacates at any time, the remaining roommates will have the opportunity to name a new roommate (must have completed 6 semesters on campus). If you are not able to name a roommate, Housing may work with you to find a roommate utilizing the waitlist.
