Summer Internship Funding Awards
The 2020 Funding application opened on Feb. 3, 2020, and is now closed for 2020.
If you submitted an application and have not heard from us, you are likely still on the waiting list, we will be in touch if we are able to consider you for funding this year.
What are the Internship Funding Awards?
The Summer Internship Funding Awards Program is designed with the intention to increase the ability of all Colorado College students to participate in internship opportunities, many of which remain unpaid or underpaid.
All currently enrolled Colorado College students who will return to campus for a minimum of one semester after the completion of their summer experience are welcome to apply. Colorado College students are eligible to receive one award during their four undergraduate years.
Eligible internships must be a minimum of 8 weeks and 240 hours (some special consideration will be given to experiences that don't quite meet this minimum). The internship must be away from the CC campus, and all travel for internships outside of the U.S. must be approved. Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing to be eligible. Third-party programs are not eligible for funding. While the internship does not need to be confirmed or accepted at the time of application, verification of the confirmed internship will be required before the award is officially secured.
Summer 2020 Internship Awards
April 16, 2020: It is my pleasure to let you know we are now able to move forward with the internship funding awards process. There have been a few changes to eligibility requirements, and expectations, but I feel these are reasonable given our current global health and economic situation. I will work with you individually should you have concerns or questions on how this impacts your specific situation. See below for more details. ~Andrea Culp
March 20, 2020: As Colorado College continues to closely monitor the developments of our current health situation, the president's cabinet and the college's multi-disciplinary COVID-19 Emergency Response Team are meeting regularly to assess plans for continued impacts to our campus community.
Currently the Career Center is unable to make decisions around the awarding of Summer Internship Funding for all internship opportunities. The Career Center encourages you to continue your internship search and remain persistent in your pursuit of quality experiential opportunities for this coming summer. We anticipate further direction from the college regarding how the Summer Internship Funding Awards program may be modified or impacted by April 20th. While our top priority is supporting your professional journey, we continue to consider your health and safety as well as the current landscape of the working world.
Should you have any funding questions or need to provide an update to an existing funding application, please reach out to Andrea Culp. The Career Center staff remains available to support you through your internship search. Feel free to schedule an appointment in Handshake. If you are not finding appointment times that work for your availability or time zone, or for any other quick questions, please reach out to the Career Center by email.
The 2020 Internship Funding Application will open February 3, 2020. All applications must be submitted through Summit (under Academic Dean's Office/CC Provost Office). The application will remain open until all funds are allocated or May 1, 2020 (whichever comes first). Your internship does not have to be accepted or confirmed prior to applying for Summer Internship Funding.
To best prepare for your application, start your search for internship opportunities early and consider what you hope to gain from these experiences. The application is meant to be reflective in nature as well as help the selection committee understand how this specific opportunity will support your goals. Details are included in the Frequently Asked Questions.
Prior to receiving funding, all recipients must complete an updated agreement to fulfill set expectations and requirements before, throughout and after their internship. Once your application is submitted you will have 4 weeks to receive an offer and submit the related Employer Confirmation Form within your application. Should you not be able to meet this deadline, you can request an extension of up to 4 more weeks to complete your internship search, but you MUST communicate your situation with the Career Center for this extension. A final confirmation must be returned by your supervisor no sooner than May 13, 2020 (before funds are disbursed) in order to ensure there have not been changes to the planned internship. Updates to eligibility requirements will be communicated to all funding applicants.
