Two members of Colorado College’s Class of 2012 –Jordan DeGayner of the men’s swimming and diving team and Deanna Thirkell of the women’s tennis squad – have earned a spot on the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
DeGayner, a chemistry major with a 3.90 grade-point average from Nokesville, Va., secured All-America honors by winning the 200-yard freestyle at the 2012 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. He is just the second swimmer in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference history to claim a national title. He is the seventh Tiger to earn first-team accolades, and was a second-team selection in 2011.
Thirkell, a romance languages major with a 3.98 grade-point average from Monument, Colo., earned a spot on the second team and became the first Colorado College tennis player to receive the highly-competitive national honor. She also was a first-team all-district selection as a junior in 2011, and completed her career with a 49-26 (.653) singles mark.
