Students Hold 'Divest Fest' on Worner Quad

The CC Student Divestment Committee is hosting a 24-hour demonstration on Worner Quad in support of divesting from fossil fuels. Weston Sandfort ’16, an organizer of the event, said it is also to thank the approximately 1,000 CC students who signed the petition urging divestment. “This is not a protest against the Board of Trustees or the administration, it is simply a demonstration in support of divestment,” Sandfort said.

Three members of the group also gave a presentation to the Colorado College Board of Trustees, focusing on the socially responsible and financial sides of the argument. The event on Worner Quad also is aimed at raising awareness among students that the group was meeting with the Board of Trustees about the issue. Throughout the afternoon, several board members stopped by to chat with the students.

The event on Worner Quad started at noon, Thursday, May 2, as several students set up tents for the evening. They also arranged for grills, fire pits, and entertainment, in the form of CC student bands and improv groups.
