Phi Beta Kappa selects CC for 'Deliberation about Things That Matter'

Colorado College is one of 11 colleges and universities nationwide that have been selected to participate in "Deliberation about Things That Matter," a series of events sponsored by Phi Beta Kappa for teaching and learning deliberative skills through the discussion of major issues of meaning or value.Events at the 11 institutions will be funded by a $100,000 grant to the Phi Beta Kappa Society from the Teagle Foundation. In addition to Colorado College, the following colleges and universities were chosen: Arizona State University, Hendrix College, Stetson University, Wabash College, Drake University, Hope College, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Texas-Austin, University of Vermont and Washington State University. The partnerships will engage students and faculty in deliberative activities, and will observe and analyze those activities to study what happens when people deliberate well, how people learn the skills involved, and how they acquire the disposition to use those skills. Findings will be published in a Phi Beta Kappa white paper.
