"No More Bhopal": Anthropology Major Opens Thesis Exhibit

No More Bhopal Thesis Exhibit, by Ruthie Markwardt

Anthropology senior Ruthie Markwardt designed, constructed, and opened a thesis exhibit entitled "No More Bhopal." The exhibit highlighted the world's largest industrial disaster, which occurred in Bhopal, India on December 3, 1984. In the middle of the night, a Union Carbide India Limited pesticide plant leaked more than 30 tons of toxic gases, killing thousands of people. Today, the people of Bhopal are still dealing with the effects of the Bhopal Disaster, and the lack of accountability of the corporation and government. Ruthie's exhibit aims to bring awareness to the ongoing impact of the disaster, and the people who continue to suffer from its effects.

The exhibit is located at 802 N Nevada. For more information, contact Ruthie at
