Leadership Matters -- And Wins Award

Doris Kearns Goodwin Calls Cronin's Book 'Absolute Tour de Force'

"Leadership Matters: Unleashing the Power of Paradox," co-authored by Political Science Professor Tom Cronin, has been selected for the 2013 Outstanding Leadership Book Award.

The selection committee, based at the University of San Diego's Graduate School of Leadership Studies, hailed the book for its "exceptional scholarship, innovative thinking, and significant contribution to the field of leadership." The committee praised "Leadership Matters" for its "clear examples, cogent arguments, and careful critical analysis," saying that its accessible and provocative approach will challenge both practitioners and scholars to rethink prevailing theories.

Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin said it was "an extraordinary book-an absolute tour de force." Aspen Institute's James O'Toole said it was "destined to become a classic."

Cronin is McHugh Professor of American Institutions and Leadership at Colorado College and president emeritus of Whitman College. He co-authored the book with Michael Genovese, director of the Institute for Leadership Studies at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

The award will be presented Oct. 31 at the annual conference of the International Leadership Association in Montreal.
