Ken Salazar '77 Tapped for U.S. Secretary of the Interior; Vilsack Parent of CC Grad

Both the cabinet nominations announced by President-elect Barack Obama on Dec. 17 have Colorado College connections. Ken Salazar, U.S. Interior Secretary-designate, is a 1977 Colorado College graduate, and Tom Vilsack, U.S. Agriculture Secretary-designate, is the parent of a 2003 Colorado College graduate. Salazar, Colorado's Democratic U.S. senator, was a political science major at Colorado College who went on to distinguished public service, including Colorado Attorney General. A first-generation college student, Salazar has always advocated for the underprivileged and disenfranchised, as well as for wise use of land and other resources. When he was a member of the Colorado College Board of Trustees, Salazar went above and beyond trustee duties as he recruited students from around the state. He remains an inspiring role model for CC students and for all of the Colorado College community.
