Jeff Sauer ’65 Coaches Sled Hockey Team to Gold Medal

The U.S. sled hockey team, coached by Jeff Sauer '65, defeated Russia 1-0 to take gold in the March 15 final of the Paralympic Winter Games. They are the first team to win back-to-back Paralympics gold medals.

After the victory, Sauer said "I've coached guys in the National Hockey League and guys that have won national championships, but the chemistry on this team with a 15-year-old and a 35-year-old player is better than any team I've ever coached. There's a bond there and I love them like sons."

A member of USA Hockey's International Council and Disabled Hockey Committee, as well as president of the American Hearing Impaired Hockey Association, Sauer now is in his third year as the team's coach. He's guided Team USA at the last two World Championships, winning the gold medal in 2012 in Norway and the silver in 2013 in South Korea. Read more here.
