“Glorious” Mistakes Lead to Self-Discovery

Each year, Colorado College's senior class selects a quote that they feel in some way embodies their time spent at CC.

When the Class of 2014 selected the following quote by Neil Gaiman it resonated with Sam Seiniger '14. The quote reads:

"Now go, make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes; break rules. Leave the world more interesting for your being here. Make good art."

"When I read the words our classmates selected for our Senior Quote, I came to a realization," says Seiniger. "Many of my best CC experiences were what I describe, borrowing from the quote, as 'glorious and fantastic mistakes' - not the kind of mistakes you regret, rather the types of mistakes that allow you to unexpectedly tap into something marvelous that changes your life's course for the better."

During his undergraduate journey at CC Sam took a pilgrimage to Ireland, traveled to Cube for a summer block course, organized and led river trips through CC's Outdoor Recreation Committee, and worked with Mathematics Professor Fred Tinsley on a senior thesis.

During his four years as a CC student Sam has come to appreciate how gifts to the college's Annual Fund make a difference.

"Without alumni, parents, and friends of CC, these formative experiences would simply not be possible," he says. "Each piece of my unique, well-rounded Colorado College education - mistakes included - will be taken, learned from, and applied to the rest of my life's journey."
