Five Volleyball Players Recognized

A school record five members of the Colorado College volleyball team earned all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors for their performances during the 2013 regular season in a ballot of the league’s head coaches.

Leading the way was outside hitter Abbe Holte ’17, who was named Freshman of the Year. She was joined on the first team by setter Devon Lucero ’16 and libero Sophie Merrifield ’16.

Middle hitter/team captain Kristen Liberty ’15 and opposite hitter Courtney Birkett ’16 were second-team selections.

Holtze, the only first-year player to receive first-team honors, finished second in the SCAC averaging 3.26 kills per set and 10th with a .233 hitting percentage. She leads CC with 12 double-doubles (kills-digs) and with 360 points.

Colorado College finished the regular season with a 31-3 record and was ranked No. 9 in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll.
