Colorado College seniors Zirkle, Hockaday receive Watson Fellowships

Two Colorado College seniors, John Zirkle and Brian Hockaday, have been awarded Thomas J. Watson Fellowships. Zirkle, of Knoxville, Tenn., will study "From the Stave to the Stage: Choral Music of Eastern Europe" in the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Estonia. Hockaday, of Port Isabel, Texas, will study "The Sum of Us: Sexual Identity and Gay Communities in the New Urban World" in South Korea, Vietnam, India, Turkey, South Africa and Brazil. The Watson Fellowship is a one-year, $25,000 grant for independent study and travel outside the United States. It is awarded to graduating college seniors nominated by their institution.
