Colorado College Economics and Business Papers Among Top Downloads

Colorado College's economics and business department is second in the state of Colorado in the number of working papers downloaded from the Social Science Research Network (SSRN) over the last 12 months. Colorado College is second only to the University of Colorado-Boulder, whose department faculty outnumber CC's by a margin of 35 to 12.

The SSRN is an organization devoted to the rapid worldwide dissemination of social science research and is composed of a number of specialized research networks in each of the social sciences. Its Web site at is frequently the first channel of communication for leading-edge research.

SSRN 2008-09 downloads place Colorado College's economics and business department fourth among U.S. liberal arts colleges. Internationally, SSRN counts Colorado College's economics and business department 280th out of 1,500 institutions (including think tanks and research universities).

The department attributes its research success to depth and breadth, both cultivated by hard work. Recent work investigates environmental policy, welfare reform, health care, managerial decision making, agriculture and biotechnology, philanthropy, pedagogical methods, international trade and exchange rates, corporate lawsuits, tax policy, election equipment, the National Football League, the Olympics, game shows, and more.

One of the factors distinguishing Colorado College's economics and business department is faculty-student collaboration on research. In the past year alone, SSRN visitors downloaded 429 papers co-authored by CC students, a number dwarfing that of many entire liberal arts colleges. The department has posted research to the SSRN co-authored by 12 CC students.
