Cipher Wins General Excellence Award

Colorado College's student-run magazine, Cipher, won the 2012 Magazine Pacemaker award for general excellence in collegiate magazines.

Cipher, edited by Andrea Tudhope '13, was one of only five feature magazines to receive the award from the Associated Collegiate Press.

The judges were from The Atlantic, and they looked at content; quality of writing and editing; photography, art, and graphics; layout and design; and overall concept or theme.

The other feature magazines honored were Prime at the University of California at Los Angeles, Currents at Pepperdine University, North by Northwestern at Northwestern University, and Inside at Indiana University.

Following is the magazine's mission statement: Cipher is an alternative news magazine that emphasizes journalistic writing and endeavors to engage the reader in meaningful discourse. Our magazine comes out of Colorado College, but it does not cover Colorado College exclusively. We investigate matters affecting the college, Colorado Springs, this nation and the world. Beyond that, we are always striving to be a venue for creative, critical perspectives.
