CC Sociology Professor Lead Author on Ground-Breaking Study of Youth and Digital Media

C.J. Pascoe, assistant sociology professor at Colorado College, is a lead author on a newly released study that shows time spent online is important for teen development. The study was released at the American Anthropological Association's annual meeting on Nov. 20 in San Francisco.

Over the course of three years, researchers interviewed more than 800 young people and their parents, and spent more than 5,000 hours observing teens on digital social networking sites. Pascoe, who wrote a chapter on intimacy, says results show that America's youth are developing important social and technical skills online - often in ways adults do not understand or value.
