CC drama professor to appear in 'Viktor' in London this week

CC Drama Associate Professor Andrew Manley is appearing in the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch production of "Viktor" at the Sadlers Wells Theatre in London this week. Manley led a Block 8 class, Drama Away, in London this spring and remained following the conclusion of the class.

Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch is a world-famous company and the subject of the recent award-winning film "Pina," directed by Wim Wenders. This is the first co-production of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch with Teatro Argentine and the city of Rome. Whenever the company performs "Viktor," they use local people as performers and part dancers.

"Pina Bausch's work is truly great, approachable art that has changed the face of modern dance and modern theater because it combines both," Manley said. "And to be part of one her creations, albeit in a very small way, is to experience that genius from inside it. Which is disturbing and exciting!"

The Sadler Wells Theatre is presenting a month-long series of international co-productions to celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic's global focus, as well as one of the most influential choreographers in dance, Pina Bausch.
