CC Drama Professor Directs U.S. Premiere of Controversial Play About Gaza

Andrew Manley, CC associate professor of acting and performance studies, will direct the U.S. premiere of "Seven Jewish Children: A Play for Gaza," on March 12-14 in Chicago. The play has just completed a short run at the Royal Court Theatre in London, where it stirred debate and controversy.

British playwright Caryl Churchill ("Top Girls," "Cloud Nine," "Serious Money," "Far Away") wrote the 10-minute play in response to the recent events in Gaza. The play suggests Israeli children are subject to a barrage of contradictory information about past and present. In seven conversations that take viewers from Holocaust to Hamas, the unnamed characters talk of survival, identity, defiance and aggression.
