CC dance showcased at ACDF gala performance

A dance choreographed by CC guest choreographer I-Fen Tung and performed by dance major seniors Coral Cutts-Montgomery, Christine McGarvey and Emily Van Brunt was selected to appear in the American College Dance Festival’s prestigious Gala Performance in Milwaukee, Wis. in late March.

The dance, titled “Boundary,” was inspired by modern dance movements and contact improvisation, and was one of only a few dances chosen to be showcased at the regional festival. Though CC's relatively small dance program was competing against many conservatory-like universities known for producing professional dancers, Patrizia Herminjard, dance technique faculty member, was not surprised at CC’s success.

“The CC dance department has always prided itself on our many creative dancers. Though we are a small school, our work often stands out because it is original and non-conventional," Herminjard said. "This year, we sent our guest choreographer’s work to the festival. Her work was clearly derived from a different movement vocabulary than we are used to in the West and the judges noticed this and put her piece in the Gala.”

Tung, an exchange artist from the Taipei Artist Village, was sponsored by the Culture Bureau of the Taipei Government, and taught at CC for blocks 5-6.
