CC Celebrates the Class of 2012

Colorado College President Jill Tiefenthaler awarded degrees to 525 members of the Class of 2012 at the college's 130th commencement ceremony on Monday, May 21. Five master of arts in teaching degrees also were granted.

Musician, singer, and songwriter Abigail Washburn, a 1999 graduate of CC, gave the commencement address. In addition to Washburn, honorary degrees also were bestowed on Colorado Lt. Governor Joseph Garcia and legendary jazz guitarist Johnny Smith, who was described as a "Colorado Springs treasure." Daniel Marion, from Dillon, Colo., was the senior class speaker, giving a senior address titled "Understanding What Ithacas Mean." The commencement ceremony was held outdoors on Armstrong Quad with Pikes Peak in the background.

CC's baccalaureate ceremony was held on Sunday, May 20, in Shove Memorial Chapel. Matthew Bakker, visiting professor of sociology, gave the baccalaureate address, titled "Dare to Imagine Things Differently." Commencement video and photo gallery available at:
