CC a Leader in Peace Corps Volunteers

Colorado College is 10th among small colleges and universities in the United States with alumni serving as Peace Corps volunteers. CC currently has 20 alumni serving, which brings the total of CC Peace Corps volunteers to 362 since the organization was founded in 1961.

Colorado College students are very service-oriented, said Geoff Falen, director of the college's career services center. "Our students have a tradition of strong participation in international service-oriented activities both during and after college," he said. Last year CC placed ninth in its size category, also with 20 alumni serving.

The Peace Corps ranks its top volunteer-producing schools annually according to the size of the student body. Small schools have less than 5,000 undergraduates, medium-sized schools have between 5,001 and 15,000 undergraduates, and large schools have more than 15,000 undergraduates.

The Peace Corps's 2012 list of top volunteer-producing schools was released Jan. 25. More than 200,000 Americans have served in 139 host countries since the inception of the Peace Corps.
