CC English Professor Joe Gordon has recently published a book and launched a publishing house. After retiring in 1997 as a professor of American literature, Gordon began building his dream ranch in the Arkansas Valley of Southern Colorado. From that experience sprang his novel, "Spirit Bears," in which the protagonist, a professor on sabbatical in the remote Colorado mountains, becomes in involved in the mystery surrounding the death of a Ute activist.

"Spirit Bears" was published in April by the Foothills Press, founded by Gordon and Jim Diers. The company is a small, independent publisher dedicated to publishing quality fiction and creative non-fiction about the Rocky Mountain Region. Of particular interest are stories that reflect the relationship between people and the land, and the ways in which each impacts and shapes the other.
