Colorado College student Annaliese Schroeder ’15 has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship. Schroeder, an economics major from Colorado Springs, will spend the coming academic year as an English teaching assistant in the secondary schools in South Korea.
Schroeder said her interest in teaching English as a second language began during her sophomore year at CC, when she realized her passion for travel and education could be combined. During the fall of her junior year, she took Children in a Multicultural Context in Denmark, conducting a sixth- through eighth-grade ESL practicum throughout the semester. She also took Teaching ESL at CC, where she learned the importance of relating the material to the students’ lives and the significance of conversation and listening.
“I chose to apply for the Fulbright in South Korea because of the uniqueness of the education system and my desire to gain a new perspective on education,” Schroeder said. “South Korea, overall, is extremely dedicated to education and I am excited to experience the differences that may have on the classroom environment.”
