Amelia Eskenazi (Feminist & Gender Studies '19) was recently awarded a summer residency at Picture Berlin, a non-profit "artist-initiated hybrid residency/art academy developed by artists for artists" in 2009.
This 10-week Summer Session "encourages an active discourse on contemporary art while simultaneously giving the resident artists a chance to develop their work, meet artists and curators based in Berlin, exhibit their work and join the international Picture Berlin community." Further, the program includes, but is not limited to, choreographed artist walks with 8 artists through 6 neighborhoods in Berlin; a tour of more than 200 Project Spaces, artist and curatorial self-funded initiatives; a Gallery Tour; and a Future Glitter workshop led by Eva Hartmann, who specializes in strategy management and professional development for artists.
Last, but not least, Amelia will collaborate with Professor Heidi R. Lewis (Director and Assistant Professor of Feminist & Gender Studies) as one of two principal photographers for the latter's forthcoming multimedia project entitled In Audre's Footsteps: The FemGeniuses in Berlin. This project is based on the course Professor Lewis has been teaching in Berlin annually since 2014, Hidden Spaces, Hidden Narratives: Intersectionality Studies in Berlin, in which Amelia participated in 2016.
