Can today’s art be an act of resistance to public policy that too often marginalizes youth, particularly those from black and brown communities? Or is it simply a diversion in an era of individualism and consumer culture?

"The Art of Resistance" answers this question by gathering premier contemporary artists (Bakari Kitwana, Sonia Sanchez, Adam Mansbach, Chinaka Hodge, and Jorge "Popmaster Fabel" Pabon) and engaging them in dialogue with the artist/activists of the Black Arts and Civil Rights movements, the pioneers of hip-hop culture, and YOU, the next generation.

Together, we will examine past alliances between art and social movements, with an eye on defining what political art and artful politics look like in today’s changing and polarized America. This forum focuses on empowering youth to consider best practices for moving a political agenda around issues that affect their daily lives and building new institutions that speak to the contemporary challenges facing young Americans in the post-election, post-recession moment. The forum will consider issues such as education, policing and criminal justice, unemployment, national infrastructure, and more. A panel of scholars, activists, and artists from across generations will lead participants in an interactive 90-minute town hall style discussion that explores the major civil rights issues of our time and encourages students “to be the change they wish to see in the world.”
Zodiac Trio concert Thu, 17 Jan 2013 15:59:54 MST https://www.coloradocollege.edu/events/2013-02-07-zodiac-trio-concert https://www.coloradocollege.edu/events/2013-02-07-zodiac-trio-concert
Thursday, February 7, 2013 7:30 PM

This Visiting Artist concert features the Zodiac Trio: Kliment Krylovskiy, clarinet; Vanessa Mollard, violin, and Riko Higuma, piano.

The Zodiac Trio was originally formed in 2006 at the Manhattan School of Music under the guidance of renowned clarinetist David Krakauer and violinist Isodore Cohen of the Beaux Arts Trio. With its reputation growing, the young ensemble has since performed throughout Canada, the United States, Japan, many parts of Europe, and most of China’s main cultural metropolises.
