Colorado College Events Colorado College Events “Revolution, Counter-revolution, and Gender in the Middle East” A lecture by Nadje Al-Ali Mon, 15 Oct 2012 16:27:47 MDT <p><em>Thursday, November 15, 2012 7:00 PM</em></p><p>Nadje Al-Ali is professor of gender studies at the Centre for Gender Studies, at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Her main research interests revolve around gender theory; feminist activism; women and gender in the Middle East; transnational migration and diaspora moblization; war, conflict and reconstruction, art and cultural studies, and food. Her most recent books include "What Kind of Liberation? Women and the Occupation of Iraq (2009, co-authored with Nicola Pratt) and "Iraqi Women: Untold Stories from 1948 to the Present."&nbsp;Al-Ali was president of the Association of Middle East Women&rsquo;s Studies (AMEWS) from 2009-11. She is also a member of the Feminist Review Collective and a founding member of Act Together: Women&rsquo;s Action for Iraq. Scott Professor of English at the University of Southern California, where she teaches film, literature, and popular culture. She is author of "Loving with a Vengeance: Mass Produced Fantasies for Women"&nbsp;and "The Women Who Knew Too Much: Hitchcock and Feminist Theory," both currently in their second editions, among other books.
