'27 Grace Berkley Brannon reported that her son, Berkley Brannon '60, who passed away Feb. 3, 1996, was honored by the city of Oceano, Calif., where he was city manager. The city dedicated a memorial in his honor on the anniversary of his passing.

 

'34 Fred and Lillian Walberg '35 Handke celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September.

 

'38 Frances Allen Buchanan has 26 grandchildren and "about 20" great-grandchildren. * Robert Lind retired from "Blast from the Past," an amateur group that plays big-band music for community affairs. He retired in 1978 from his professional career at Dow Chemical and still golfs about twice a week. * Ada Slate Parvin lives in Colorado Springs, where she still drives her 1950 Chevrolet. * Frank Phelps, a retired chemistry professor, was honored for fifty years in the American Chemical Society. He bowls twice a week and hit a 200 recently. * Russell Switzer, a retired water treatment consultant living in De Pere, Wisc., pampers his garden the old-fashioned way. To avoid the chemicals in city water, he runs rain water from his garage roof into 55 gallon drums and sends it through plastic pipes to his garden. * Jack Waymire swims nearly every day. '41 Bob Bartlett's family history was chronicled in a story published by the Gazette Telegraph in December. In 1879, Bob's grandfather arrived in Colorado Springs as the city's first dentist. * Jack Oliver received his Purple Heart medal after a 53-year wait. He received the medal for injuries sustained during World War II and had it presented to him at a ceremony on Veteran's Day in Grand Junction, Colo.

 

'42 Frances Gray Richards is retired and living in Durango, Colo. Her husband, Paul Richards '33, passed away in 1993.

 

'50 Ted Green reports that fellow classmate, Albert Adler '51, lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Ted and Albert met their freshman year at CC and have kept in touch ever since. Ted also keeps in touch with Don Manzelli '53, and Bill and June McHardy '52 Murray. * Marshall Sanders is retired and living in Laurel, Md.

 

'51 Bob and Barbara Lett Brugger spent 1996 traveling the globe to such destinations as Belize, Guatemala, China and Switzerland. Stateside adventures included visits to California, Oregon and Wyoming.

 

'55 Fred Froelicher is retired and living in Helena, Mont., with his wife, Mary.

 

'57 Save the Date! Your 40th reunion is Oct. 17-19. * Charles Owens retired after 26 years teaching chemistry and serving in several administrative roles at the University of New Hampshire then serving as vice president for academic affairs, as well as acting president during the 1994-95 school year, at Radford University in Virginia. He is now senior associate with Kaludis Consulting Group, which provides assistance to higher education institutions on a wide range of academic and administrative issues. Charles and his wife, Barbara Williams Owens, live in York, Maine.

 

'58 Paula Erickson Dille, Judy Reid Finley, Ginger Romnes Hansen, Nancy Cunningham Ramsayer and Nancy King Quandt '59 enjoyed a reunion at the College's Baca campus during the Alumni College in August. They "learned a little and talked a lot as our teacher and leader, Professor Joe Pickle, will attest." * Virginia Kroenlein and Josh Edelson were married in December. Virginia is the registrar at Westminster School in Simsbury, Conn. * John Larkin reports he is still a professor of microbiology and associate dean of the graduate school at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. * Joann McLaughlin is a part-time secretarial assistant for the Blinded Veteran's Association in Washington, D.C. * Marianne Smith Mishmash reports that she and husband, Bob, enjoyed 15 years in the bicycle business before retiring in 1995. Local volunteer projects are a priority. * John Morton retired after 34 years with Texaco. Retirement plans include a yearly "big" trip; this year it will be to Norway. He and his wife, Mary, recently celebrated their 30th anniversary. John gets together occasionally with Bill Kemp '57, John Curzon and Don Soukup. * Ray Myers writes that he is a retired computer executive and recovering curmudgeon, and has three grandchildren at last count. He and wife, Janet, live in Palo Alto, Calif., and spend weekends sailing in San Francisco Bay.

'63 Bruce Franklin is settling into a new job as director of purchasing/facilities for Movado Group, Inc. of Lyndhurst, N.J. * Ben Lewis is executive director of the Aurora, Colo. Chamber of Commerce. "I can't believe I'm still at the chamber. I arrived in '87 with the plan of being there a year or two, but Aurora has become a dynamic place of change with DIA (airport) and base closings. I rode the Iowa week-long bicycle ride with a son, two sons-in-law and Bob Fredregill in July 1996. It's wonderful to keep up a great friendship with my CC sophomore class roommate." * Jerry Macon is president of Macon Systems, Co. in Colorado Springs. He includes news from a disgruntled wife (Carol): "Not content to be working 80 hour weeks developing and supporting the windows version of his software, Jerry is starting yet another company called Granshoppers. Look for it soon on the Net, if he lives that long." * Mike and Carol Fisher Minelli are both retired from their "career" positions. They live in Longmont, Colo., where Mike operates Game Birds Unlimited and Carol works as a travel consultant in Boulder. All three "children" and six grandkids are healthy and happy. * Joe Moore reports two down and one to go (to college). They live in Phoenix, where Joe is still a workers compensation defense attorney; wife, Karen, takes care of everything else. They want to retire in the northwest early in the new millennium. * Kathie Bruce Murphy owns Kathie Murphy Interior Design Associates in Santa Rosa, Calif. She specializes in designing residential remodels and has been in business for 19 years. She is married to Richard Pratt, a CPA. Her son attends the University of Montana and her daughter is a graduate of the University of California at San Diego. * Malika Julie Thomas Oudes has a new job after years of teaching art: second grade. "It's like my first year all over." She now goes by the name "Malika" and has two sons attending college in Washington. Malika lives in Tonasket, Wash. * Rob Pittaway is still in Stonington, Conn., awaiting spring and the next reunion. * Stephen Porter works on stainless steel sculptures for public and private clients, and teaches computer graphics at Penn State. He lives in Bellefonte, Penn. * Susan Hardy Rieger is principal of Crystal River Elementary School in Carbondale, Colo.

'64 Mary Bardone, husband, Bill Platte, and their daughter, Piper, went on a six-month, around-the-world sabbatical. They visited friends in Europe and traveled in Tanzania, India, Bali, New Zealand and the Cook Islands. They are at home in Juneau, Alaska, where they have resumed their psychotherapy private practice.

 

'65 Art Basham was elected president of the medical society in Santa Clara County, California. * Suzanne Benua Vorbrugg is a musician with a folk quartet in Fussen, Germany. * Pamela Meredith is coordinator of the post-master's nurse practitioner program and an assistant professor at George Washington University's School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.

'69 Candi Kelly is a development officer with the College of Agriculture at Iowa State University Foundation in Ames. * Jane Lubchenco is president of the 143,000 member American Association for the Advancement of Science. * Ray Sitton was appointed vice president of organization development for ISG Technologies, Inc. in Toronto, Ontario. * Peter Weinberg is senior vice president and financial controller for DKB Financial Products, Inc. in New York. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have two children, Margit and Raymond.

 

'70 Ted Greiner and his family have moved to New Delhi, India, where Ted will head a team that has been asked to evaluate the substantial Swedish support to the Integrated Child Development Services in Tamil Nadu state.

 

'71 Kat Bradley-Bennett manages a community recycling program in Longmont, Colo., Colorado for Eco-Cycle, Inc. Kat and her husband, Andy, have two teenage sons, Cody and Patrick, and fill their free time with their four-piece folk-swing band, Ever' Little Thing. * Robert Redwine was invited to the Mountain Chalet in Colorado Springs in February to present a slide show on his climb of Mt. Aconcagua, South America's tallest mountain. * Joe Tempel, a planner for the Department of Transportation who lives in Morrison, Colo., was featured in Colorado Homes & Lifestyles Magazine's April 1997 issue, featuring the unique remodeling job he did to his home.

Your 25th reunion is Oct. 17-19! * Jose Barrera is director of ethnic minority studies at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. * Carole Bloedorn and Ray Sparrow were married May 23, 1996. Carole is manager at the IT Learning Center for Glaxo Wellcome in Research Triangle Park, N.C. * Wendy Costikyan was elected a partner of Egon Zehnder International, a global executive search firm. She lives in London with her husband, Malcolm Smith, and their son, Prescott. They are "enjoying overseas living, although we get tired of all the grey skies and rain in the winter!" * John and Paula Philips Frease now live in Estes Park, Colo. after 17 years in Cairo, Egypt. Margaret works in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense in Falls Church, Va. * Chris Tribur sadly reports the death of his wife, Candace, after a four-year fight with breast cancer. Chris lives with his twin daughters, age 16, in Conifer, Colo., where he is self-employed.

'74 Bruce Didesch is an assistant U.S. attorney with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Spokane, Wash. He and his wife, Terri, have two children, Jacob and Kristen. * William Hauserman is vice president of Guy Carpenter & Co. in New York. * Connie Sharp is on leave from Knox College, where she is dean of students/assistant professor of philosophy, to pursue graduate studies in mental health counseling at Antioch University in Seattle, Wash. * Richard Staples dropped by Tutt Alumni House while in town on business to test the alumni director, Diane Brown Benninghoff '68, on face recognition. Richard is vice president in the community development department at Fleet Corporate Administration. * Lucy Towbin and Fred Hickling were married Dec. 31, in Little Rock, Ark. Lucy is a social worker and lactation consultant at the Arkansas Department of Health in Little Rock.

 

'75 Bob Krimmer played the Centauri Emperor Cartagia, on the TV series, Babylon 5. * Laura Troxel Pickering and her husband, Glen, celebrated their 25th anniversary in June. Laura is an elementary school teacher and works for Chasing Summer Outfitters, which offers guided horseback rides in the summer and makes custom-made western wear in the winter, in Clearwater, British Columbia. * John Zinner and Susan Henderson were married Oct. 26 in Pittsburgh, Pa. John is an independent environmental consultant in Santa Monica, Calif., and vice-chair of the Santa Monica Planning Commission.

'78 Kerri Halberg lives in Dublin, Ireland, and keeps in touch with classmate, Marjorie Thompson, who lives in London. * Thomas Lee is vice president of new ventures and acquisitions for Molex, Inc. in Lisle, Ill. * Stephen Smith is a mastering engineer for cassettes and compact discs at Sonopress, USA, and is also co-owner/engineer for Soundsmiths Performance Recording in Weaverville, N.C. He and wife, Karan, have a daughter, Haley, 4.

 

'79 Karen Kiley is a contract negotiator for Texas Instruments in Dallas. * After serving as Colorado's solicitor general since 1991, Timothy Tymkovich has returned to private practice in Denver.

 

'80 Ken Abbott and Jennifer Jones were married Dec. 29. Ken is on a leave of absence from his position as a photographer at the University of Colorado at Boulder to devote more time to his artwork. * Thomas Atkinson works as a legislative aide in Juneau and Anchorage. He finds time to swim in Kenai Peninsula lakes, and thrives on salmon, biking and skiing. In September, they entertained Nancy Harvey Larson, her husband, Jon, and son, Andrew, as well as John Allenberg, Ellen Osmundson and their son, Ozzie. In January, Laurie Marvin and Arlis Yamashiroya visited to ride horses and tour the wineries. All of Lew's friends will be glad to know that he is finally getting back to his roots -- "When did you say you'd have that herd of sheep, Lew? Baaaa!" * Patricia Ward Kelly is sad to report that her husband, dancer/director, Gene Kelly, passed away Feb. 2, 1996. * Harlan Simon resides in Berkeley, Calif., and reportedly is "making [the] shift out of practicing law to something more human."

'82 Madlyn Lemonik Catlow is a family therapist at the Looking Glass - Stepping Stone Lodge in Eugene, Ore. * La Puente Home, which is run by Lance Cheslock and wife Stephanie Frykholm, received El Pomar Foundation's Award for Excellence in Human Services at a ceremony in November. La Puente serves the homeless of six rural counties in the San Luis Valley in Colorado. * Bob Mancini is director of player personnel for the United States National Junior Hockey team, which played at the 1997 IIHF Junior Championships in Dec./Jan. in Switzerland. * Angela Leach Pizzichini is vice president of fixed income and institutional national sales for Merrill Lynch in Denver. * Eric Smith and Janice Lou were married July 28, 1996. Eric is a training administrator for Young Bros. in Honolulu.

 

'83 Henry Borra is an independent anesthesiologist for Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City, N.M., where he lives with his wife, Brenda, and their three children. * Carolyn Taylor Leetma and husband, Ivar, live in San Diego, where she is an attorney with Neil Dymott & Hull. * Julie Meltzer was chosen as an Appalachian College Association Fellow and will do her doctoral studies at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. She has been teaching education courses at Ferrum College, Va., for the past five years. * Mark Polite is in real estate investment and development in San Francisco. * Doug Pray directed "Hype," a documentary about the Seattle rock music scene.

 

'84 Susan Boettger is a mediator and attorney in Ruidoso, N.M. * Alison Bradley, a self-employed photographer, is in the master's program in art and photography at New York University and the International Center of Photography. * Paul Dayton is tennis director of the Windridge Tennis Camp in Craftsbury Common, Vt. He and wife, Erika, have three children. * Gavin Ehringer spends the winter looking for the best ski bargains as a snowboard columnist with the Rocky Mountain News. * Kate Fuller and Jonathan Niles were married June 29, 1996, near Albuquerque. '85 James Bonfils and Andrea Levitt were married Aug. 31, 1996, in Steamboat Springs, Colo. James reports that there were 25 CC graduates in attendance--"a real rager in the Rockies!" James is manager of emerging markets fixed income for Standard Bank of South Africa in New York. * Rashe Lyford and Ellen Reilly were married Feb. 8 in Denver. '89 Steve Barbee is a sales director for ICG Telecom, Inc. in Los Angeles. * Tim Budy and Colleen Hutchison were married May 18, 1996 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Alumnus Derek Pizzey was in attendance. Tim is a chartered accountant with KPMG Peat Marwick in Vancouver, B.C. Christina Chamberlain lives in Dublin, Ireland, where she is a partner support engineer with Tally Systems, Ltd. She says living in Ireland is great and would love to hear from people heading her way. * Thomas Coffey and Lizbeth Bullon were married Jan. 4 in Arequipa, Peru. * Jerry Duggan is an English teacher and forensics coach at Rampart High School in Colorado Springs. '90 Shannon Aldrich and Douglas Payne were married Sept. 1, 1996, in Orcas Island, Wash. They reside in Seattle, where Shannon is marketing director for American Music. She frequently comes across other CC alumni, including Nick Sherman '91, co-owner of BSK, a local printing company, and Mike Slade '79, president of Starwave Interactive. * Seth Bossung is a carpenter in Mill Valley, Calif. * Chad Chesley and Susan Bridgewater were married Nov. 9.
