'28 Mary Rose Bruick is retired and living in Solvang, Calif.

'33 Roy Anderson is sorry to report the death of his wife, Bess, on March 5. Roy lives in Denver. * Ken Peterson lives in an assisted living center in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Margaret, his wife of 59 years, reports that although they don't live together, their two facilities are connected with a tunnel ( "that is a plus!"

'38 Ed Pelz reports that Charles Axtell has restored his home, which was severely damaged and left without electricity, telephone or water after the January 1994 earthquake in Northridge, Calif. Ed showed up the afternoon of the quake with a gallon of bottled water and made a subsequent visit again this past July. * Ed also tells us that Maxine Jarvis Dougherty is not only an attentive grandmother but also an occasional grandfather and father to her two little grandsons. In 1995, she sponsored the installation of stained glass windows around the front door of her Presbyterian church in Shawnee, Okla., in memory of her husband, Bill. * John Ferguson and his wife, Freddie, who have traveled to Scandanavia, Costa Rica and Greece in recent years, are "running out of steam for traveling." They are happy they made the move to a townhouse 11 years ago where they have no yard or maintenance duties. * Ed visited with Lottie Obodov Mogilner and her son, Mark, last December in Colorado Springs. Lottie was the first to marry from the class of '38 (to Abe Mogilner '33.) Widowed in 1993, Lottie now has a granddaughter at Harvard and a grandson at M.I.T. * Robert Nelson, a hockey player at CC and a 10K runner not long ago, attended an Elderhostel at CC in July 1995 and "couldn't walk from Mathias dormitory to Worner Student Center without extreme pain." Now a bionic man with new knees, he walks with ease. * Glen Strawsburg and his wife Samantha published two books in 1996 on their respective family histories. Glen's book,Travels in Search of an Ancestor, is mostly about his forebearers but does contain an account of his ascent of Capital Peak near Aspen in 1932 as a 16-year-old from Cheley Colorado Camps. * Edward Todd took Ed Pelz to his favorite restaurant in La Junta, Colo., last January and treated him to what the menu called a "light lunch" ( fried cod, french fries, beans and salad. Pelz "lapped it up." Todd is still the same 130 pounds as 60 years ago. Twice widowed, he gave up golf several years ago and trout fishing last year.

'39 Martha Robinson Doyle reports that she is now a widow and has retired to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

'46 Lois Schiager Rand was awarded the Commander's Cross, Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, which recognizes significant contributions to Norway, by His Majesty King Harald V of Norway. Lois and her husband, Sidney Rand, the former ambassador to Norway, have been active in Norwegian-American affairs and were co-chairs for the Midwest section of the visit by Norway's King and Queen to the United States in 1995. In September, Lois also received the Wittenberg Award from the Luther Institute in Washington, D.C. The award is given to Lutherans who have made contributions in the area of faith, ethics and public policy.

'53 Janet Clemens Schoepflin paid a visit to the Alumni Office in June while in town to attend her son's wedding. She returned to Colorado after three years of teaching English as a foreign language at a small college in Szeged, Hungary. She reports that her experiences in Hungary were "life transforming."

'55 After a two-year battle with cancer, Joan Martin Reed reports she feels wonderful and hopes to make it to the next class reunion.

'56 Robert and Sharon Conner '57 Van de Velde are retired and living in Tulare, Calif., where Robert is a rancher and grows cotton while Sharon spins and weaves the cotton.

'58 Connie Little Dedrick lives in Palm Desert, Calif., where she is enjoying life in the beautiful desert. * Catherine Carman Edwards reports that she and her husband, Steve, are keeping busy with their seven grandchildren. * Peter Gazzola retired as vice principal of Roland Michener Secondary School in South Porcupine, Ont. He and wife Nilma spend their winters in Mesa, Ariz. They enjoyed meeting Bill "Red" Hay and his wife, Nancy, this past winter. * Robert Hite, district manager of Metro Wastewater Reclamation District in Denver, was elected president of the Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies, which represents the nation's 150 largest publicly owned wastewater treatment agencies. * John Larkin, microbiology professor and graduate school associate dean at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, was featured in the July 5 issue of LSU Today for his discovery of a "monster microbe" he found on the floor of the Gulf of Mexico. He believes it to be the largest documented bacterium and expects it will shed light on how primitive organisms gained energy and evolved into higher forms of life. * Dolona Roberts lives in Santa Fe, where she pursues her artistic vision as a painter. Her work has shown in galleries and exhibitions in Europe and the United States. * William Schacht is the interim pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Fairbanks, Alaska. '59 Barbara MacPherson Burgess stopped by the Alumni Office in June while vacationing in Colorado Springs from her hometown of Topeka, Kan. * Helen Scriven Johnstone reports that she was widowed in August 1994. She resides in Folsom, Calif.

'60 Bob McIntire, president of R.D. McIntire & Associates in Pittsburgh, Pa., spoke to the World Trade Center in Bethesda, Md., on "Business Opportunities in India." Bob is an international management consultant and is working on projects in India, Australia, South Africa, England and Mexico.

'61 Sara Rivard Coulter was chosen by the Maryland Association for Higher Education to receive the 1996 Outstanding Educator Award. Sara is a professor of English at Towson State University in Towson, Md. * Gary Gappert represented CC at John Carroll University's presidential inauguration in September. Gary is director of the Institute for Future Studies at the University of Akron. Glenna Maxey Goodacre received her second honorary doctorate after delivering the commencement address at Texas Tech University. She received her first from CC in 1994.

'62 Chuck Hudson said a good time was had by all who attended the CC hockey regional game at Winners Sports Bar in Virginia Beach last March. During the semi-final game, Sylvia Wilhelm Vance '66 and her husband, Kim, joined Chuck at his home. * Ned Lawrence, director of international partners sales for Sun Microsystems, travels 175,000 miles a year to nearly 25 countries. '63 Spencer Cook works for Smith Barney and lives with his wife, Liz, at 314 Bonnie Brae Ave., Rochester, N.Y. 14625. They have two sons, Spencer Jr. and Ted. * After 25 years, James Cotton retired from the IBM Law Department as a corporate staff counsel and is now a professor of law at Texas Southern University, Thurgood Marshall School of Law. His wife, Marjorie, and their son, William, look forward to their new life in the academic world. He would love to hear from fellow classmates. * Honie B. Wilson Crandall is a psychiatrist in private practice, living in Colorado Springs. * Carol Swartz Duggan has been teaching for 23 years in the Sunnyside School District in Tucson, Ariz. In that time, she has taught grades 2,3,4,5 and multi-aged combinations. Next year, she will teach first grade, giving her a primary-grade straight flush. She is active in math and science, technology training for teachers, student council and peer mediation training. And she loves to play tennis. * Kathryn Berthrong Durham's new address is 1334 Mallory Court, Norfolk, VA 23507. * Raechel Jensen Fouts, who teaches math at Kent Denver School, is now an empty nester and is looking forward to the new freedom that it brings. She asks, "What is everyone else doing with their time?" * James Furman won a New York City art commission funded by HUD and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs to make an architectural stained glass window for the new Genesis Apartments. He lives in Trumansburg, N.Y. * Donald Giffin retired from the U.S. Navy as a captain. He and his wife, Mary, reside on a small farm east of Fountain, Colo., where they raise hay and a few head of cattle. * Nancy Cox Santamaria is director of professional services at Texas Accountants & Lawyers for the Arts. Nancy and her husband, Joseph, have two sons, Jason, a Fulbright scholar in Caracas, Venezula, for a year, and Eric, a sophomore at Colorado State University. * Heather Kirk Thomas, associate professor of American literature at Loyola College, was selected as Loyola's "Distinguished Teacher of the Year" at Maryland Day in April. '65 Caroline Creyke was in Augsburg, Germany, until August on a Fulbright teacher's exchange. Caroline teaches German at Farmington High School in Farmington, N.M. * Fredrick Elkins MAT is a neuromuscular therapist with DELOS Neuromuscular Therapy Center in Houston, Texas.

'66 Tom Falgien MAT received the 1996 Col. F. Don Miller Sports Service Award for his dedication and service to the programs and activities of young athletes in the Colorado Springs area. * In June, Terry Winograd was honored at a dinner in Menlo Park, Calif., by Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility for his work in defining CPSR's mission and purpose over the years. * William Yost was elected as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences for his research and service in the hearing sciences, particularly his work in psychoacoustics. He is a professor of hearing sciences, director of the Parmly Hearing Institute, and adjunct professor of psychology and of otolaryngology at Loyola University in Chicago.

'67 Carlin Kielcheski MAT is a Western artist at Critters & Corrals Studio in Colorado Springs.

'69 Dallas attorney Lawrence Newman plays bass, harmonica and acoustic guitar, and sings vocals in the country-blues band, Rough Justice. * Pam Shipp is a member of the Pikes Peak Human Relations Coalition, a privately-funded organization formed to address such issues as discrimination, intolerance and community polarization in Colorado Springs. * Greg Smith practices law in Denver, focusing on health care and technology-related work. He has received a number of appointments, including one to Colorado University's Health Science Center physical therapy and primary care programs as President of Continuing Legal Education in Colorado, Inc. In addition, he is chair-elect of the Health Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association and on their Board of Governors.

'70 Carole Jones Huber is a member of the Pikes Peak Human Relations Coalition, a privately-funded organization formed to address such issues as discrimination, intolerance and community polarization in Colorado Springs. * Susan Mackin Lever and Lewis Anderson were married Nov. 24, 1995, in Atlanta. Susan is a program specialist with the Southwest Regional Office of the Food and Consumer Service, Supplemental Nutrition Programs.

'71 Lucinda Armstrong is the co-director of the Madison Presbyterian Preschool in Madison, Ind. Her son is a junior at Ball State University and her daughter graduated from high school "30 years after Mom."

'72 John Hawk completed his 20th year teaching in School District 11 in Colorado Springs. He and wife Pamela have two daughters, Autumn and Heather. * Barbara Michel and Philip Gabbert were married April 5 in Colorado Springs. * Elizabeth Speir and her son, Sam, moved to their new home in Denver in May. Her sister, Ann Speir Esch '59, visited to help with the move. * Grant Williams received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in St. Louis. He is the owner of Knights Ltd. '73 James Diers MAT is an instructor/coordinator for continuing education at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. * Laura Myers is a physical therapist at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. * Tad Savinar is part of a team consisting of architects, landscape architects, a biologist and an artist (Tad), formed to create a master plan for the Oregon Garden Project, a 220-acre botanical garden outside Silverton. Groundbreaking is expected this fall. * Kathy Shimpock-Vieweg has written Business Research Handbook: Methods and Sources for Lawyers and Business Professionals, which was published in May. '74 Happy Benson is a nurse practitioner in HIV and Primary Care in Key West, Fla. * Barron Beshoar lives in Salt Lake City with his wife, Windy, their two dogs and three cats. He is a systems manager with Matrixx Marketing Fulfillment Services. * Jerry DiMarco works as the instructional lab supervisor in the physics department at Montana State University. '75 Paul Hebron lives in New York with his wife of 10 years, Sonja. Paul works as an actor, making his living primarily on stage, television and in commercials. * Jay Maloney is senior vice president of foundations for Centura Health in Colorado Springs. * Alan Sears is a senior investment officer at Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation in Juneau, Alaska, and is the father of six-year-old Jessica.

'76 Joseph Bassin is proud to report on his son, Daniel's, musical debut at Carnegie Hall last May. Daniel plays trumpet with the Gemini Youth Symphony and toured in Europe last summer as principal trumpet with the Long Island Youth Orchestra. Joe looks forward to seeing his friends and fellow classmates at the 20th reunion. * Bonno Bernard is senior editorial director for Odwalla, Inc., in Half Moon Bay, Calif. * Kathryn Davis lives in Lakeville, Conn., where she is an author of children's books.

'77 Emma Bunker and Ernest Fields were married Feb. 14 in LaGrange, Wyo. * David and Sharon Ives '78 Kirchheimer live in La Canada, Calif., where David is managing director/chief administrative officer at Oaktree Capital Management in Los Angeles. Sharon reports that they are entering the pre-teen years with their daughter, Amy, and ask for any tips. * Alexia Gamache Smaller is area marketing director with Marketing & Management Corporation of America in Canon City, Colo. '78 Samuel Eppley lives in Colorado Springs with his wife, Christine, and their son, Nicholas. Samuel is president of Sparrow Hawk Ltd. * Jo Ann Schneider Farris teaches ice skating at Honnen Ice Rink on the CC campus. Students, faculty and staff enjoyed Jo Ann's lessons throughout her pregnancy (she taught until the day before her baby was born). * Paul Franco was promoted to associate professor with tenure at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, where he teaches in the Department of Government and Legal Studies. * Albert Hofstra and Peggy Sue Anderson were married Apr. 14, in Evergreen, Colo. '79 David Barker lives in Seattle, where he is the copy editor at Northwest Runner Magazine. * Karen Conway is director of government and public affairs for Colorado Interstate Gas in Colorado Springs. * Nanci Hill Feeney loves motherhood and her stay-at-home status. In 1995, she trained in San Diego County's master gardener program and that keeps her busy on the side. * Maria Hsu Rumpp is executive secretary/president of distribution at New Line Cinema in Los Angeles. '80 While in Tucson, Ariz., at the National Elementary Chess Championships with their two sons in May, David Arnsteen and Beth Brooks found a note under their van's windshield wipers at their hotel: "Go CC! They almost beat U. of M. From a '71 grad in Room 281." It turned out to be Linda Corrie '71 from Phoenix, who was also there for the chess tournament and had seen the CC alumni and Tiger hockey stickers on the van. Beth commented, "This is just further proof that we should display our CC affiliation at all times in order to rendezvous with our ubiquitous fellow alumni!" * Joan Ludeke teaches physical and cultural anthropology, anthropology of AIDS and other epidemic diseases, and anthropology of religion: sects, cults and the occult, at Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs. She is also involved with the care and safe housing of battered women with AIDS, and counsels abused women and children at The Center for the Prevention of Domestic Violence. * Peter and Susan Ward '81 Marty and their two children have relocated to Davenport, Iowa, where Peter is senior pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Susan is a registered nurse. * Michael Rifkin is owner/vice president of Rifkin Insurance Associates, Inc., in Englewood, Colo.

'81 David Beatty was awarded one of the 1996 Presidential Awards for Outstanding Service on Behalf of Victims of Crime, the highest federal award for exemplary service to crime victims. David is director of public policy at the National Victim Center in Arlington, Va. * Abigail Cope and Jed Schutz were married Oct. 21, 1995, in East Hampton, N.Y. * Jody Haas was named regional sales manager, western region, for Sports News Channel in Denver. * Peter and Beth Chapman Hanlon live in Salt Lake City with their three children. Peter is vice president of consulting at Texas Commerce Bank Foundation, and Beth is a physician practicing internal medicine at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center. * Sara Ecke May is self-employed as an advertising consultant in Pasadena, Calif. * Ren Moore is a marketing manager with Sun Microsystems in Mountain View, Calif. * Bradley Pickett is a doctor with The Hearing Institute in San Jose, Calif. * David Schaeffer and Tracy Mooney were married Nov. 18, 1995, in Bozeman, Mont. David is vice president of sales and marketing for Off The Beaten Path in Bozeman.

'82 John Auffrey is in his fifth year as a geography/history teacher at Windhoek International School in Windhoek, Namibia. * Brad Friedman was elected board vice president and chairman of the endowment committee for Jewish Family Service in Denver. * Scott Hampson is director of worldwide planning at AST Research in Irvine, Calif., and is attending the executive M.B.A. program at U.C.L.A. * Mark Levy is director of human resources for Williams-Sonoma, Inc., in San Francisco. * Doug Reitinger was a winner in the 1996 Utah Wilderness Association Poetry Competition with his submission, "Love Song of Canis Latrans." Doug lives in Laramie, Wyo., where he works at the University of Wyoming. * Rebecca Keithahn Umenthum MAT was a recipient of the 1995 Presidential Award for excellence in science and mathematics teaching, the highest honor a teacher of mathematics or science can receive. She received a National Science Foundation classroom grant and was honored in May at Department of State dinners and a reception at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum. Rebecca teaches secondary mathematics at Belle Fourche Middle School in Belle Fourche, S.D. * Steven Vaughn is president/CEO of The Atlantic Chiropractic Centers. He also founded Rhino Ventures, Inc., which provides venture capital, management, construction, training and consulting to new graduates of chiropractic colleges. * Julie Zafiratos is interactive services coordinator for The Good Guys in Brisbane, Calif.

'83 David Baay lives in Colorado Springs where he is "trying to figure out how to have a life while working full time." He keeps in touch with Bill Steinhour '81 and looks forward to seeing more friends show up on CC's e-mail directory. "Are you listening, Malcolm?" * Ralph Day lives in Ft. Hood, Texas, with his wife, Melody, and their three children. He is an attack helicopter pilot and aviation safety officer in the U.S. Army. * Mark and Rebecca Junge '84 Haas live in Cicero, Ill., with their four children, Robyn, Ian, Martha and Nina. Mark is an orthodox priest at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. * Steve Howerton and Vicky Lovejoy live in Signal Hill, Calif., where they are attempting to "maintain a Colorado ranching lifestyle in the middle of the most grossly overpopulated city in this country." Their "little" condo is home to two-95 pound German shepherds; Steve keeps his horse in nearby Palos Verdes. They hope to return to Colorado someday. * Tavas Leota is first secretary with the Western Samoa High Commission in Wellington, New Zealand. He and his wife, Imelda, have three children. * Elizabeth Ring lives in Tokyo with her husband, Charlie McKee, and their two children. Elizabeth is an editor with Bloomberg Business News. * Judith Snyder Rivera is a bilingual kindergarten teacher at Branaforte Elementary in Santa Cruz, Calif., where she lives with her husband, Gilberto, and their two sons.

'84 Chris Beebe is an architect with Eric Smith Associates in Boulder, Colo. * T. Jolene MacGregor lives in Austin, Texas, where she is self-employed as a tutor and independent scholar. * Robert Matsuoka is president of The SoHo Internetwork Company in New York City. * Andrew Milne is self-employed with the Law Office of Andrew Milne in Arlington, Va. *

Linda, her husband, Richard, and their two children, Paige and Nathaniel, moved to Long Island over the summer. * During a visit to Denver in July, Mitch Green and his wife, Vicky, got together with Charlie Stanzione '84, Tom Hyland, Rashe Lyford, Tom MacKenzie and Laurie Strasburger '88. Mitch is still with ABC sports in New York; Tom MacKenzie is a doctor of internal medicine for the city of Denver; Tom Hyland is self-employed; Rashe is working at Antec in Denver; Laurie is a student at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center; and Charlie is working as a geologist with Bishop-Brogden Associates, Inc., and "reliving his youth" by partying with the young people in their Denver soccer group. * Patricia Kule MAT and Paul Malek were married June 8 in Colorado Springs, where Patricia is a Spanish teacher at the Fountain Valley School. * Nancy Lamb is a clinical neurologist in Rockledge, Fla. * Lisa Rivera and Kumar Amin were married July 6, in Dallas, Texas. The couple was introduced by Barry Brown '84 and Paula Becker. Lisa works on the regional criminal enforcement counsel for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 6, in Dallas, Texas. * Anna Scholten is a flight instructor and certified aircraft mechanic, and works as an analyst for Jeppesen Sanderson in Englewood, Colo. * Mark Sipowicz lives in San Francisco and reports that he is "still writing, surfing and bookselling." * Todd Wells is a PIP unit supervisor with Progressive Insurance in Lakewood, Colo.

'86 Mike and Sarah Warner '88 Burdick live in Omaha, where Mike is a Ph.D. candidate at Eppley Cancer Research Institute and Sarah is a city planner. * Dave Cortez lives in Colorado Springs, where he has opened his own agency selling all lines of insurance. * Kraig and Laura Hoeven Ecton live in Ft. Collins, Colo., with their two daughters. Kraig is a deputy district attorney in Ft. Collins, and Laura is a math teacher at Poudre High School. * Suzanne Finney spent the summer in Pohnpei, Micronesia, doing field archaeology with the Historic Preservation Office. * Chris Goodwin is a family physician at the Rockwood Clinic in Spokane, Wash. * Christopher King, a lieutenant with the Navy, completed a three-year tour in Japan and now lives in San Diego with his wife, Kappie, and their two children.
