’56 Al Johnson, professor emeritus of economics at CC, and director of the debate and forensics program at CC for 42 years, retired at the end of the 1998 school year. Although retired, Al assisted his replacement, Julie Stapleton, in her first year of running the Colorado College Forensic Tournament, one of the largest held in the U.S. Sixteen former student-debaters returned to participate, representing classes from 1975 through 1997. A roast for Al was also held, attracting many friends and former colleagues. * Helen Adams Tucker, retired and living in San Rafael, Calif., has four children and five grandchildren. She raises border collies and works sheep with them, "much like the movie Babe."

He is finishing a book for laymen on pain, A Doctor Has a Change of Heart, due out soon. * David Hite will retire as deputy director of the Colorado Legislative Council at the end of 1999. He is attempting to climb the top 100 peaks in Colorado. He completed a trek in the Everest region of Nepal last fall. * Claudia Elkins Humphries is a seventh and eighth grade English/government teacher at Carden Arbor View School in Upland, Calif. She founded the school in 1981, and served as headmistress for seven years. In 1987, she "stepped down" to teach full time and raise seven children with her husband of 26 years, Bert. Their sons and daughters have attended SMU, Temple, Memphis, and San Francisco State. Two more are in high school. Their seventh child died in 1988. * Anne Wilson Jacobson is an administrator for the St. Charles Borromeo Church in Peoria, Ariz.
