’38 Helen Wood Carroll moved down and out from her bustling, multi-level, church-sponsored retirement community -- down from a high-rise apartment and out to a cottage to have a garden and more room for visiting family members. Helen, in Phoenix since 1940, continues to summer in her beloved Pinetop in the White Mountains, about 150 miles northeast. She also spends a week or two every winter in Mexico with her son and his wife. * Paula Wilson Aden moved five years ago to Albuquerque, N.M., from Kentucky to be near her daughter, Julie, who drove Paula to her 60th CC reunion. Paula’s journalist husband, Tom, died in 1975. “The news bores me,” wrote Paula in December. “But my dear Associated Press man would be spinning.”

’43 John Howland let us know that Bert Stiles’s book, “Serenade to the Big Bird,” is in its sixth printing. John and Bert flew at the same time with the 91st Bomb Group out of Bassingbourn, England, during WWII. Bert was killed in action just a few months after writing this story. * Eva Hodges Watt is the author of “A Woman for All Seasons -- Helen Marie Black Heart of the Denver Symphony Orchestra.”

’53 While in Rochester, Minn., Ben Snyder had a number of CC sightings. Dr. Canzanello, a Mayo Clinic physician who was treating Ben’s wife’s high blood pressure, had a picture of his son in a CC hockey uniform in his office. Ben then ran into Chuck and Sue Royce ’52 O’Connor, and they had a great time catching up on 48 years. Later, he played tennis with Leon Grosso, who coached young Canzanello at Mayo High School, where he also coached a couple of Andy Gambucci’s nephews and three other CC hockey players. Last year, he ran into Moses Harrison ’54, now chief justice of the Illinois Supreme Court, on Longboat Key. Good thing Moses had on a CC sweater or Ben would have missed him, as a lot of time has passed since they played basketball together at CC.
