Bulletin
NOVEMBER 2002

Editor's Note

Editor Lisa Ellis Dear Alumni and Friends:

This is my first issue of the Bulletin! It's chock full of articles and photos about CC's new president, incoming first-years, Homecoming, campus events, and interesting alumni -- past and present.

It's my first issue, but it's your magazine. So let me know what you think about the look, feel, and content of this and future issues. Put me in touch with alumni who you think lead interesting lives. Share your opinions by sending in a letter to the editor. E-mail me with story ideas or volunteer to write an article. Stay connected with your fellow alumni, faculty, and friends by submitting news and photos for the class notes section. Participate in the readership survey we're planning for early next year. With your input, we'll continue to put out a high-quality magazine that speaks to your needs and interests, and that you can be proud of.

Each issue is a collaborative effort on the part of talented college staff and alumni, freelance writers, photographers, and designers. I am grateful to the magazine's editor emerita Karrie Williams, and to interim editor Anne Christensen, for their support.

While I'm the new editor, I'm no stranger to Colorado College. I graduated with the class of '82 as a Russian studies major. For the last 20 years I have lived and worked overseas and in the Washington, D.C. area. As a world traveler, I have an appreciation for what makes people and places unique. As someone who has spent two decades working in communication-related fields, I have honed my passion for journalism. Drawing on this experience, I hope that each issue of the Bulletin will capture the college's dynamism, intellect, and unique sense of place.

Strolling with classmates in the Tiger Walk over Homecoming Weekend, I am reminded of the college's distinctiveness. I remember engaging in raucous discussions of freedom and authority with a small group of classmates among the warmth of sunlit rocks in the Garden of the Gods. I treasure memories from my Russian professor's cozy kitchen where we sipped tea and reviewed grammar during an independent study course. This place, and the people who are a part of it, mean a lot to me.

As my son, a first-grader who until now lived his entire life in Virginia says, "It's great to be home in Colorado." I say it's great to be back at home at Colorado College!
