James Berry is executive vice president and managing director of compliance services for Kaplan Financial. • Kathy Rechnitzer Kelly was recently elected chair of the board and treasurer of the Tarlton Foundation for Easter Seals Greater Northwest Texas, in Fort Worth. Kathy is executive director of the Fort Worth chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. • For the last four years, Byron Olson has worked as a tribal archeologist with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in Fort Yates, N.D. • Robert Redwine, a financial professional with the Sterling Group, a division of AXA Advisors, was reappointed to the Sterling Group’s advisory board. The group is comprised of financial professionals who exceed the highest standards of experience and service in the industry. • After living in Colorado all her life, Kate Bevers Simpson has moved to Tuscon, Ariz. She looks forward to hearing from fellow graduates in the area. • A Sept. 12 article in the Summit Daily News profiled CC alumnus and trail-runner extraordinaire John Swartz. John, the fastest trail runner over 50 in Western Colorado, has a long and varied sports history, training in lacrosse, cycling, skiing, swimming, golf, rowing, racquetball, etc., throughout his lifelong athletic career.

Jim Levison returned to campus in October for Homecoming as a panelist in the “35 Years of The Colorado College Plan” discussion. This standing-room-only event also featured David Struthers ’75. • Los Angeles-based artist and architectural photographer Elizabeth Gill Lui received the Hong Kong Asian Cultural Council 2005 Artist’s Fellowship Award. The grant will support her work in Hong Kong as a visiting professor in the department of architecture at Chinese University in Hong Kong.

The Wildlife Center of Virginia, the nation’s leading teaching and research hospital for native wildlife, announced the appointment of Randy Huwa as the organization’s executive vice president. In this new position, Randy coordinates the center’s development and public relations efforts and assists in overall program management. • Barbara Mathews was named Edison International’s first chief govern-ance officer as well as corporate secretary. She lives in Santa Monica, Calif., with her husband and two children. • CC hockey great Doug Palazzari was inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame on Nov. 17. • Victoria Pollack Rowe is the owner of Addison Rowe Fine Art Gallery in Santa Fe, N.M. • W. Torrey Sun represented CC at the Whittier College presidential inauguration Nov. 12.

Heather Myers is an Edward Jones investment representative with her own office in Ft. Collins, Colo. She recently received her region’s “Spirit of Ted Jones” award — a pair of autographed boxing gloves — for her business success and for recruiting and mentoring new investment representatives. Heather is also an exhibiting artist in tapestry weaving and botanical art. “I’m still fascinated with color and plants — not something I expect my fellow CC physics majors to remember about me.” Heather exhibits with the five-person Studio Botanica group she initiated in 2003. Another member is friend Susan Elmblad Rubin ’77. • Jamie Peters and his wife, Jean, have “kept their connections to the CC community over the years in hosting Horst Richardson and the CC soccer team during their annual visits to the Twin Cities,” where they reside, and are the “proud parents” of Stephanie Peters ’06, who has had “a very full 3.5 years as a student at CC.” Jamie is currently vice president of medical services at Fairview Ridges Hospital in the Twin Cities’ South Metro area, where he also practices as a hospitalist (specialist in inpatient care) and sports medicine specialist. • Michael Stiehl joined the ranks of CC alumni who serve as elected officials when he was sworn in as commissioner for Fremont County, Colo., in January 2005. His campaign in 2004 was his first run for political office. “I sure like the variety of this office,” Mike says. “We’re the executive, legislative, and judicial arms of the county all rolled into one. It’s a real challenge and quite rewarding.” • Terry Hartel Woodrow and her husband, Michael, have “finally” returned to Colorado after 17 years in Plano, Texas. They are “also delighted to be empty-nesters.”

Jeff Garrison and his wife, Susan, were on campus in October to present an information session to CC students about foreign service careers, including working for the State Department.

Susan Sell is a professor at George Washington University. • In January, Loren Thompson traveled to India to help with tsunami relief. He and a friend, a native of the country, “raised what money we could, cashed in what we had, and flew out to jump-start a school” for 1,400 children in the “wiped out” district of Nagapattanam. “Almost every child had lost one or more loved ones, and several of the elementary kids had sibling infants on their hip — mom and dad were both taken by the wave.”
