Obituaries

Leonard Bristow ’26, Colorado Springs, Oct. 24. Leonard taught mathematics at the university level for many years. Survivors include his wife, Inez.

C. Lyle Brokaw ’27, Raritan, Ill., March 11, 2001. Survivors include his son, Curtis ’60.

Ruth McBurney Wallace ’31, Colorado Springs, Nov. 10. Ruth was a homemaker.

Lillian Turner Barnes ’32, Colorado Springs, Nov. 17. Lillian was a homemaker.

Arthur G. Bishop ’33, Vail, Colo., Dec. 9, 2001. Survivors include his wife, Camille, and his son, William ’68.

Charles E. Hathaway ’33, Green Valley, Ariz., April 20. Charles was retired from the Colorado Department of Education. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Fitzsimmons Hathaway ’37, and his sister, Esther Hathaway McDermott ’32. Samuel W. Vickerman ’33, Colorado Springs, Aug. 11. Sam retired from Holly Sugar after 31 years of service. Sam was an active member of CC’s Fifty Year Club. Survivors include his wife, Mary Bloom Vickerman ’32, and his son, Jay ’63.

W. Henry Willie ’33, Colorado Springs, Sept. 9. Henry was a retired teacher and school administrator. Henry served as president of CC’s Fifty Year Club from 1984-87 and served on the National Alumni Council’s nominations and awards committee from 1987-88. The college awarded him the Lloyd E. Worner Award in 1986 for his volunteer service to the college. He and his wife, Audrey, were famous for their “postcards from the road” as they called on alumni all over the country in their many motorhome trips. Class Notes for the classes of the 30’s were enriched by his dedication to staying in touch with alumni. Henry was a true ambassador for Colorado College wherever he went. In addition to Audrey, Henry is survived by his son, Bill, and numerous other family members.

Bertha Maxeiner Deppe ’34, Greeley, Colo., April 20. Bertha was a retired teacher and homemaker. Survivors include her daughter, Berdell Deppe Akin ’72.

Raymond LeMasters ’35, Pueblo, Colo., Sept. 14. Raymond was the owner of LeMasters Janitor Supply Company.

J. Raymond Lowell ’35, Newport Beach, Calif., Jan. 6, 2002. Survivors include his wife, Mary. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Lowell Twilley ’31.

Elizabeth Evans Daniels ’36, Colorado Springs, Nov. 28. Elizabeth was a homemaker and was active with Kappa Alpha Theta, The Junior League, the Dance Theatre and the Fine Arts Center. Survivors include her husband, Albert ’36.

Orville B. Trainor ’37, Canon City, Oct. 23. Orville was an accountant.

Leonard von Bibra ’37, Denver, Dec. 16. Leonard was a generous benefactor and loyal alumnus to the college.

Joseph R. Aldendifer ’39, Rancho Mirage, Calif., Nov. 8. Joe was the retired president and director of Mt. Pulaski Telephone Company. He was a devoted volunteer for the college, serving on the athletic fund-raising committee, the development committee and the reunion giving committee. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia.

Stephen W. Lowell ’39, Kalispell, Mont., May 16. Stephen was a retired news reporter with the Associated Press.

Richard Morgan ’40, Seattle, Wash., March 8, 2002. Richard was a retired engineer for the Boeing Company.

Noel Meyn ’42, Lake Oswego, Ore., Feb. 19, 2002. Noel was a retired physician. Survivors include his wife, Pat.

Claude “Mark” Adams ’44, Colorado Springs, Sept. 1. Mark achieved the rank of colonel in the U.S. Army, serving until his retirement in 1974. Survivors include his cousins, William Calvert ’44, Anne Calvert Cross ’45, and Marilyn Marksheffel Duque ’53.

Martin N. Bunker ’44, Greeley, Colo., Oct. 20, 2001. Martin was a pilot with United Airlines for 42 years until his retirement in 1993. Survivors include his wife, Frankie, three daughters, and five grandchildren.

Curtiss V. Hart ’44, Middlebury, Conn., July 18. Curtiss was retired from Platte Bros. and Company.

Gerald L. Jones ’44, Colorado Springs, Nov. 29. Jerry was retired from Wells Fargo Banks of Colorado, Inc. He was an active member of CC’s Fifty Year Club and belonged to the Friends of the Library. Survivors include his wife, Jean Armstrong Jones ’44, and daughters, Marjory Jones Webster ’82 and Emily Snyder.

Kleath A. Kembel ’45, Stockton, Calif., March 22, 2002. Kleath was an attorney. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary. He was preceded in death by his brother, Hollis ’44.

Robert T. Kramer ’62, Colorado Springs, June 25. Robert was retired after 32 years of active duty in the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Judith Wilson Kramer ’62, his daughter, Kathryn Kramer Gradia ’83, and his brother, Hazen ’58.

Meredyth Richards Tippin ’62, Alamogordo, N.M., July 22. She was a devoted mother and wife, and an active member of her church. Survivors include her husband, Scott Tippin ’61, children, Randy and Tami, her mother, Lois Hicks Richards ’42, her brother, Malcolm Jr. ’65, her uncle, George Casebeer ’51, aunts, Joanne Richards Casebeer ’48 and Janet Richards Boblett ’41, and cousin, Brian Casebeer ’85. She was preceded in death by her father, Malcolm Richards ’40.

Daniel Cybulski ’64, Timmins, Ont., Sept. 29. Survivors include his wife, Suzanne.

Marjorie Schmitz Sywak ’66, Berkeley, Calif., Aug. 18. Marjorie was the founder of Resource Options, a career planning and outplacement firm. Survivors include her sister, Joan Schmitz ’64, and her brother, Jerry Schmitz ’68.

Robinson Kaspar ’73, La Crescenta, Calif., Sept 20, after battling an exotic form of liver cancer. Rob was a prominent local banker, in addition to serving as a scoutmaster and regional woodbadge course director. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Roelfsema Kaspar ’73, and sons, Bryce and Eric. Jeffrey T. Clarke ’78, Boulder, Colo., Nov. 16. Jeffrey was a family physician in Boulder. Survivors include his wife and three sons.

Nancy Conine Hester ’86, Boulder, Colo., Sept. 13, 2001. Survivors include her husband, Henry, and two daughters.

Nathan Walrod ’99, Mexico, Nov. 29, in a motorcycle accident. Nathan was returning from a trip to Cuba, where he had been since August. Nathan lived in Berkeley, Calif.
