’39 Edwin “Bud” Dolan and his wife, Kay, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in October. Bud retired in 1976 after 35 years with Travelers Insurance. They live in Houston, Texas, where Bud plays 18 holes of golf five days a week and according to one of his three sons, Tim, “spends the other two days anxiously awaiting the next tee time.”

’48 Betty Kurie Uptegrove remains busy with genealogy where she reportedly has “dug up a lot of information.” She lives in Charlotte, N.C., in a “beautiful” retirement community and goes to lunch once a month with the Kappa Kappa Gamma Lunch Bunch. • On a 46-day cruise between Vancouver and China, there was a chance meeting at the assigned dinner table between Lars Watson and John Camp ’32. They were table mates for the entire cruise.

’50 Since his retirement in 1989, Kale King has continued to serve as either an interim or a supply priest in the Dioceses of North Carolina and southwestern Virginia. • After enjoying their island home in the Bay of Islands for 17 years, Hawk Mills and his wife, Diana, have moved to the mainland in Hastings, New Zealand. They miss their sea views, but now enjoy sweeping river, mountain, and vineyard views.

’56 Robert Lomax retired in September 2001 from Lockheed Martin. His wife of 45 years, Joann, died of leukemia in October 2001.

After her husband, Al, passed away in January 2002, Sally Clifford Hammond was convinced by her college roommate, Dottie Samson ’57, to move to Grand Junction, Colo. ’60 Terry Witt is a principal of Witt Strategies in Brunswick, Ohio, where he lives with his wife, Fumiyo, and their son, Hiroki.

’61 Maruta Gravitis Mang is still active in the banking business in Miami, Fla.

’62 Jim Dunlop was re-appointed by Governor Jesse Ventura to the Citizen Board of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Jim also works for the Clean Water Action Alliance, the state’s largest grassroots environmental organization. • Carol Hammond Marshall lives in Beaverton, Ore., where she is a retired physical therapist. • Judy Alt Urban took a leave of absence from teaching for the year. She is enjoying the California weather and decorating their home in San Dimas. She looks forward to gardening and traveling to Colorado to visit her children and grandchildren.

’63 Monique Hestin Amerman is president of Mountain View College in Dallas. She says, “I am still having a lot of fun in spite of the challenges education is facing.” She and her husband, Eugene, have three children and four grandchildren. She plans to retire in 2005. • Art Berglund is international senior director for USA Hockey. He and his wife, Char, live in Colorado Springs. • Eleanor Jones Brown is president/owner of Fox Hill Office Products in Overland Park, Kan., and has been in business since 1978. She and her husband, Larry, have been married 35 years and have two sons and two granddaughters. They live in Leawood. • Betty Rouse Cahill and her husband, Paul, live in Durango, Colo. • Carol Hurst Haenni co-authored the book, “Anna Woman of Miracles: The Story of the Grandmother of Jesus.”

’64 Steve Cross is an area manager for General Electric Capital-Financial in San Diego, Calif. • Bill Hybl received the 2003 Citizen of the West Award from the Western Stock Show Association. The award is given to community leaders who exemplify the spirit and determination of the Western pioneer. Bill, who lives in Colorado Springs, is the former U.S. representative to the United Nations General Assembly.

’65 John Van Ness was named vice president of administration for the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia, Pa.

’66 Rory Donaldson is development director at Xavier High School in Middletown, Conn. • Cathy Durham Gunstone retired after 20 years as a travel planner and escort in order to pursue her passion for quilting. “It is a full-time job and I love it!”

’67 Janine Richards Allen is president of Commercial Asset Managers, Inc., in Denver. • Michael Runnels is the planning director for the Village of Ruidoso in Ruidoso, N.M. He spent six months (June – Nov. 2001) in Africa, Central Asia, and Europe. • Linda Seger authored the book, “Web-Thinking: Connecting, Not Competing for Success.” • Tom Zetterstrom, creative director of Elm Watch, was featured on the television program, “Voice of America,” where he spoke about the American elm tree. Elm Watch promotes the protection and restoration of the American elms in the community forest through its adopt-an-elm program. Tom’s “Portraits of American Trees” photographic exhibition will be at the Yager Museum at Hartwick College, in Oneonta, N.Y., in June.

’68 Jack Berryhill is a district court judge in Golden, Colo., where he lives with his wife, Karen, and their youngest son, Garry. Climbing is Jack’s primary hobby and he’s done all 54 fourteeners in Colorado, plus Mt. Whitney in California and Mt. Rainier in Washington. He and Karen hiked up Mt. Katahdin in Maine in September. “If and when I decide to retire, my wife has made me promise to focus on valleys instead of mountaintops!” • Doug Brown is back at work in New York following Morgan Stanley’s return to the city after nine months emergency relocation in New Jersey. Doug is C.A.O. of the Strategic Solutions Group for Morgan Stanley and was only eight floors below where the second plane hit 2 World Trade Center on 9/11. “That I escaped still amazes, astounds, confuses, and chills me.” He goes on to say, “I was pleased by the CC Symposium in September about the aftermath of the events of 9/11…I have a deep appreciation for CC’s willingness to invite all sides of the issue to debate the solution.” • Josiah Macy is president of Drift Boats, Inc., in Eagle, Colo. • Bill and Beth Jorgens ’71 McDonald have lived in Boise, Idaho since 1999, when Bill was transferred to become regional director for the Pacific Northwest Region of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. “Between endangered salmon, tribal, and now homeland security issues, there is never a dull moment.” Two of their eight children are still at home. • Peter and Jan Rosenthal Van Zante divide their time between Boulder, Colo., where they spend their summers, and Harrisburg, Pa., where Peter teaches tax law at Widener University School of Law, and Jan writes and edits ESL/EFL textbooks. • Fred Worden presented his experimental film “OR Cloud” at the Whitney Biennial 2002. It was also shown at the Rotterdam and New York Film Festivals.

’71 John Krauss was appointed to the Supreme Court’s Commission on Continuing Legal Education. John was also elected chairman of the board of directors for The Nyhart Company, an Indiana-based employee-benefits firm. John is a senior fellow at Indiana University’s Center for Urban Policy and an adjunct professor of law at Indiana University’s School of Law. • Leroy Smith is the head librarian at Doherty High School in Colorado Springs.

’72 Claudia Smith Earley and her husband, Steve, celebrated their 25th anniversary in Paris last year. They have three children, and live in Littleton, Colo., where Claudia is a private reading tutor. “I’m finding life in my 50’s wonderful!” • Cynthia Brown Elder is the innkeeper at The Florence Rose Guesthouse in Florence, Colo. • According to Robert Power, the Geriatric Telemark Society, founded by a number of CC alumni, was to gather this winter for an adventure at the Tenth Mountain hut near Leadville, Colo. Other participants included Bruce Hayden, Steve Sterner, and Dave Boardman ’74.

’73 Cliff Ellis and Cathy Thorne were married Oct. 11, in Lawrence, Kan. • George Merkert took first place in the U.S. National Inline (skating) Downhill Championship at the San Francisco Gravity Festival in November. George, at 51, was the oldest athlete in the field and won the championship for the second consecutive year.

’74 On the Monday following Homecoming, Marcia Kemper McNutt, who was on campus to show daughter, Ashley, around, gave two presentations, “Exploring the Ocean: Earth’s Final Frontier” and “Engineering the Ocean” to two large crowds of students and faculty. Marcia is the head of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in Monterey, Calif. Many students are hoping to join Marcia on her next research cruise which travels from New York to Bermuda and back. • Leslie Priest and her husband, Joe Roubal, live in Thornton, Colo., where they recently joined the unemployed ranks of high-tech professionals. Leslie reports that they are “pros” at job hunting. They have enjoyed the constant friendship of Peggy Earnshaw ’74 and Paul Tanaka ’75, and Leslie’s former husband, Christopher Patton ’75.

’75 Michael Hannigan serves as the executive director of two charitable foundations, the Pikes Peak Community Foundation, and the Colorado Springs Community Trust. • Paul Hurt is deputy general counsel for The Conservation Fund in Arlington, Va. He continues his private legal practice emphasizing business, tax, and conservation planning. • In June, Heather Myers completed the certificate in botanic art and illustration from the Denver Botanic Gardens. She enjoyed meeting Marj Connors Leggitt ’77 and Susan Elmblad Rubin ’77, who were instructors in the program. Heather lives west of Loveland, Colo., where she does business startups, presently for Agilent Technologies.

’76 Stephen Brown served as president of the Wyoming Medical Society for the 2001-2002 term, the society’s 100th anniversary. • Steve Childs is vice president of business development for Datacycles/Millennium Broadcast, Inc., in Union City, Calif. • Robert Neuberger is president-elect of the Multnomah Bar Association in Portland, Ore. • Fritz Schaefer is vice president of marketing for the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce. • Jane Kucera Thompson is doing a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at the University of Washington’s School of Medicine in Seattle, where she lives with her husband, Andrew.

’77 Brenda Bass will be on campus in April to give the keynote address at the West Coast Undergraduate Research Conference. • Laura Jones Crossey was on campus the Thursday prior to Homecoming to give a talk entitled, “The Grand Canyon Trial of Time.” “Her talk was informative and very entertaining,” said Paul Myrow, chair of the geology department. • G. Bruce Lemmon owns Global Events Management, L.L.C., in Tulsa, Okla. • Ken Salazar was re-elected as Colorado’s attorney general in the November election.

’78 25th Reunion – Oct. 10-12, 2003!
Jo Ann Schneider Farris is on the faculty of Branson School Online, the first K-14 public school in Colorado. From the comfort of her home, she teaches nine students who are in the K-2 grades. • Charles Frye is an attorney with Lindeman & Frye, P.C., in Houston, Texas. • Holly Fulton teaches English language acquisition at Abraham Lincoln High School in Denver, where she lives with her husband, Bill Peebles. She occasionally sees Andrew ’77 and Stephanie Kay Burton, Dottie Hiersteiner Oatman, Marty Slayden, and her favorite CC professor, Herving Madruga. • Barbara Paradiso is coordinator of the program on domestic violence at the University of Colorado at Denver.

’79 Paul Butler is a teaching assistant and Ph.D. student in the composition and cultural rhetoric program in the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University. He published an article, “Imitation as Freedom: (Re)Forming Student Writing,” in The Quarterly. • Linda Walsh Kanicki retired from teaching high school English literature and Spanish, and prefers to “languish lazily as a tennis bum!” Linda plays on two tennis teams and one women’s soccer team but spends the majority of her time with her husband, Joe, sons, Christopher and Peter, her parrot, cat, and Scottish terrier.

’80 George Johns lives in Maplewood, N.J., where he is vice president of sales at Lindblad Expeditions, a travel company specializing in small ship, educational expeditions to remote destinations such as Antarctica and the Galapagos Islands.

’81 Kim Miklofsky Bayne is the owner of Wolf Bayne Communications in Tucson, Ariz. • Joanne Field and Don Chenoweth were married May 18. They live in Denver with Joanne’s 14-year-old son, Steven. Joanne is a senior vice president with Vectra Private Bank. • Paul Liu is chairman of surgery at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, R.I. • Jodie Mathies is divorced and living in Oakland, Calif., with her daughters, Julia and Katherine. • Laurie Sutor is chief medical officer at Carter BloodCare in Bedford, Texas.

’82 John Atwater is director of analytical chemistry for U.S. Pharmacopoeia in Rockville, Md. • Matt Davies, on leave this year from his position at Penn State-Erie, is a visiting professor in international political economy at York University in Toronto, Ont. He is working on his second book on Henri Lefebvre’s theories of space and everyday life and how they might contribute to the study of the global political economy. • Kenneth Greenberg is the managing director at 17th Street Capital Partners, L.L.C., in Englewood, Colo. • Wendy McIntyre is in a tenure-track teaching position at the University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif. • Lynn Mendelsohn reports that she is “enjoying the renewed energy and excitement I feel chasing Alexander, my two-year-old son, around.” • Peter Natiello, his wife Lola, and their children, Robert, Joseph, and Ana, live in Quito, Ecuador, where Peter manages democratic strengthening and conflict prevention programs for the U.S. Agency for International Development. • Filo Sedillo and his wife, Francine, live in New York, where Filo is a managing director with Bank of America Securities. He wants to pay special thanks to brother, Dean Winstanley, for inviting him to gut salmon with him in Alaska and to take a long ‘walkabout’ downunder in Australia. “It’s been a wonderful journey and life is good.” • South Florida gathering: Veronique La Font, former head resident of French house, Veronica Scharf Garcia, Carlos Nascimento, and Clarice Strang Watkins ’81 will meet in early May. Lili Koch Colby lives in Plymouth, Mass., with her husband, Gordon, and their son, Quinn. They run a small company outside of Boston, MTI Adventurewear, that makes life jackets for canoeing and kayaking. • Louise Elton lives in Stamford, Conn., where she runs her own business, The Fitness Gourmet. She says her role is “to enhance the lives of people in need of endorphins and great cuisine.” She also gives healthy cooking classes in clients’ homes. • Chris and Liza Malott ’85 Pohle are back in the U.S. after two and one-half years in London. Liza and their children, Drew, Eliza, and Henry, spent the summer in Chicago while Chris commuted from Stamford, Conn. Chris and Liza have settled in New Canaan, but managed to get with friends, Chris and Penelope Savalas Boardman, and Ed and Laura Foster Carney, and their children over the summer for an afternoon of swimming and catching up. • Fletcher Street lives in Tacoma, Wash., and is pursuing her M.B.A. at Seattle University.

’84 Will Balthrope lives in Addison, Texas, with his wife, Missy, and their children, Brooke and William. • Jody Boyman and her husband, Berkeley Breathed, live in Santa Barbara, Calif., with their children, Sophie and Milo. Jody received her master’s degree in clinical psychology in 2001, and has practiced at Girls, Inc., where her clients are predominantly age 6-12. • Mark Peters reports from Marblehead, Mass., that he has “two wonderful kids, a fine wife, a lazy cat, one old car, one new minivan, a blue sailboat, and a couple of shrinking IRAs and 529s.” • Paul Schmidt and Ying Ying Liu were married June 23, 2001, in Beijing, China. They are living in Denver. • Jean Lofsvold Schwien is pastor at Green Mountain United Methodist Church in Lakewood, Colo. • Laura Secord Williamson lives in Leucadia, Calif., with her children, Dannu and Mikyla. • Heidi Pesky Worcester has written a series of children’s books focusing on Beryl E. Bean, a 10-year-old heroine, and are oriented to a 7-11 year-old audience. • Carol Wright is a vice president of strategic partnerships with American Airlines, based at the Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport.

’85 Ginny Brannon is an environmental enforcement attorney in the Natural Resources Section of the Colorado Attorney General’s Office in Denver. • Guadalupe Gallardo is the owner of Business Services Purveyor in Tucson, Ariz. • After a 13-year career as a television news producer, Irv Katz now teaches English at the Chelsea School in Silver Spring, Md. He taught writing to gifted children at a local college over the summer and tutors in an English as a Second Language program. • Scott Meskin is an emergency physician at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wis. • Robert Quarles and Linda Zaagman were married Oct. 27, 2001, in Bradenton, Fla. • Ella Ray is department chair and curator of anthropology at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

’86 Dave Cortez owns his own mortgage bank, Ilex Funding, in Colorado Springs. • Tony Johnson is a lieutenant colonel with the new Northern Command in Colorado Springs. • After 14 years with Hallmark Cards, Jim Mason switched to a pharmaceutical sales job with Merck, in Long Beach, Calif. • Lisa McCormick is an RN/BSN at The Emory Spine Center in Tucker, Ga. • Kyle Nelson is director of sponsored research for Adventium Labs, in Minneapolis, Minn. • Linda Smith reports that she is happy to be back in Colorado, where she is outreach director for EcoCycle in Boulder.

’87 Pam Bercutt lives with her sons, Bram and Coby, in Bellaire, Texas. She is a soccer coach for boys under 11 years old and plays in a women’s league. She says she will return to her profession of physical therapy if her soccer career doesn’t pan out. • Erica Berens is the development and special events coordinator at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, Colo. • John Betts reports that he is trying to become a writer. • David Klein and Stephanie Zone were married June 1, in Deer Valley, Utah. Alumni in attendance were William Kemp ’57, David Brock, John Bump, Ana Pazirandeh Kemp, Joseph Koster, Blair Sanford, Greg Slater, and Steve Sundstrom. David and Stephanie live in Denver, where they are both physicians. • Paul Marsilio is a vice president at Lehman Brothers in New York. • Lauretta Martin Neff is president and C.E.O. of Neff Services, Inc., in Grand Junction, Colo., where she lives with her husband, Gary. • Jack Richardson and Jennifer Eisenhauer were married in May. Jack is a professor of art education at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. • Jillian Robinson is a production manager with PBS in Tempe, Ariz. One recent production, “Images of Arizona,” won two Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards. For fun, she has tracked game in Kenya, trekked to Macchu Pichu, and tango danced in Argentina. • Ellen Stein lives in Silverton, Colo., where she is executive director of the Mountain Studies Institute. She’s thrilled to be back in Colorado where she is closer to family and friends.

’88 Michael Aldridge is a lead product manager in the Windows Digital Media Division at Microsoft in Redmond, Wash. He’d love to hear from vets of the ’85-’86 German house and see “what the most diverse group of people ever to hang out” are up to. • Anne Lyon Hoffman is a landscape architect in Belmont, Calif., where she lives with her husband, Tim. • Jennifer Holliday is an occupational therapist at Life Care Center of Littleton, in Littleton, Colo. • Leigh Ann Kingman and her husband, Robert Wardlaw, live in Denver. • Anita Beshore Lindberg is an associate with Amgen, Inc., in Longmont, Colo., where she lives with her husband, Troy. • Kerry Lintner teaches at Kwangju University in Kwangju, Korea. She currently trains Korean English teachers about ways to use technology to prepare and present lessons. • Hugh Morrison and Catherine Wong were married in San Francisco. Alumnus John Hansen was the best man. Hugh and Catherine live in Oakland, Calif., where Hugh has started his own international consulting company. • Rich and Nina Farquhar ’89 Reese live in Jackson, Wyo., with their son, Rowan. Rich is an intern architect with Strout Architects and Nina is an ESL and bilingual teacher. • Jeff Smith lives in Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, with his wife, Imelda, and their daughter, Kimberly. • Nicolette Muenter Swift is a research fellow in the Autonomic Disorders Center at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where she lives with her husband, John. • Allison Voedisch lives in Belleville, Wis., where she works for U.P.S. and attends nursing school. She still competes her horse and teaches riding.

’89 Betsey Biggs is pursuing her Ph.D. in music composition at Princeton University. • John Gillis is a physician and works for the Indian Health Service on the Ute Mountain Reservation in Towaoc, Colo. Cathrine Taylor ’90 Gillis works at home with children, Reilly and Malaika. Friends who want to visit Mesa Verde, the San Juan Skyway, and other attractions in southwest Colorado should send them a note. • Amy Hightower is an assistant director with the American Federation of Teachers in Washington, D.C. • John Tompkins is a credit analyst with Citadel Investment Group in Chicago.

’90 Robert Bachicha lives in Brighton, Colo., with his wife, Lisa, and their children, Kristine, Armon, and Joshua. • Kristin Johnston is a minister at the King of Glory Lutheran Church in Arvada, Colo. • Keller Kimbrough is a research fellow at the University of London, where he is working on his book, “Izumi Shikibu and the Literature of Medieval Japan.” • Craig Miercort lives in Tamuning, Guam, where he is a radiation oncologist with the Cancer Institute of Guam. • Katie Schreck and Remington Green were married July 27, in Denver. ’91 Lindsay Armstrong is a senior pastor for the Rock Spring Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Ga. • Tammy Gravenhorst Berberi is pursuing a Ph.D. at Indiana University. • Hadley Boyd and Tom Watson eloped to Lucca, Italy and were married April 26, 2002. Hadley is planning and development associate for The Wooster Group, an experimental theater company in SOHO, New York. They live in Manhattan with their bulldog, Puddin’. • Mark Byers is a senior engineer with Amgen in Boulder, Colo. • Courtney Jackson is a research associate at the University of Southern Maine, in Augusta. • Margaret McMillan is an assistant professor of geology in the department of earth sciences at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. • Thomas Schroeder is an intern in internal medicine at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. • Virginia Sayer Schroeder MAT is the principal of Glenwood Springs Middle School in Glenwood Springs, Colo. • Nick Sherman is an account manager with Nemo Design in Portland, Ore. • Cyndie Hoffman Stickel is a physical therapist with Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, where she lives with her husband, Shane. • Meg Stiff and Jesse Spodick were married Sept. 21.

’92 Jessica Arbogast is a nurse practitioner in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she lives with her husband and daughter. • Tavia Fielder Colvig and her husband, Clay ’90, reported that they had a crazy summer because of the Missionary Ridge fire near their home in Durango, Colo. Their wilderness adventure camp and their home both needed to be evacuated and the fire came within ten feet of some of their buildings. “Definitely a summer we will never forget!” • David Frick and Meghan Van Vleet ’95 are settled in Portland, Ore., after a 13-month trip around the world. Meghan is a first-year graduate student at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine. • Sarah Gauger is acting executive director of Hunt Alternatives, in Cambridge, Mass. She lives in Arlington with her husband, Christian, and their son, Maximillian. • Joshua Glassman is finishing his stay in Lusaka, Zambia, where he teaches at the American International School. He and his wife, Anke, have four children. • Mark Glaze is legal counsel for the Campaign and Media Legal Center in Washington, D.C. He is a member of the team defending the McCain/Feingold campaign finance reform act from constitutional challenge. • Tami Goodlette is pursuing a J.D. and a master’s degree in international human rights at the University of Denver’s College of Law. • These days, Angie Krall splits her time between Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Flagstaff, Ariz. In Colorado, she founded and directs the Ute Conservation Corps, which employs indigenous youth from the Northern Ute, Northern Arapaho, and Eastern Shoshone Tribes.
